I can use Yahoo messenger but not the mail system ...Wyndy my local # has a recording saying they are doing National Maintenance. Aqua said they are having server problems. This has been off and on for a week...I want some $$$$$$$$$ back. If I can't depend on them when I need them most then why should I bother paying them $192384728957238957437828952389756 a month ......

It has been every evening for over a week.College kids are scrambling to write last minute papers here and Comcast is being unreliable. I wonder if this will have a profound affect on the overall student population GPA this semester. Comcast is the ONLY cable provider in my area.

from bigbad through yahoo... Now the message is saying that you need to unplug your modem and up plug your router (if you have one) and then reboot. DUH that was the first thing that I tried! Then the message follows with if you want to talk to a representative that you will experience a long wait. All they are trying to do is by themselves some time so that you try this futile exercise and then call back what the hell do they think we are stupid! Then I was freaken cut off in the middle of my rant by CRAPCAST and I had to retype the rant, ARGH!

My oldest daughters,ex-husband,is a cable installer for Comcast.It has changed hands,three times.that I know of.When I first met him,it was Continental Cablevision,then ATT,now Comcast.I only knew of their television
service, but it stands to reason, that they also have computer lines.Locally,we
have Comcast & Metrocast.Your town signs a contract, with the cable provider & that's all that you can get.My TV service & also my computer lines,
are with Metrocast. If you have trouble with your computer, they have a Tech.
Service # that you can call.(Not the regular cable #)Doesn't Comcast, have the same feature?I would check it out if I were you guys!I always found, that
the squeaky hinge, gets the oil.Motto-Bitch,Bitch,Bitch.If you didn't pay your
bill,on time.They'd Bitch Irish

They don't call it COMCRAP for nothing. I had it back in Michigan. When it changed to COMCRAP from Mediaone I was offline for over a week because my connection wouldn't stay connected. Finally figured out some asshole was hacking into the system and stealing IP addresses. I ended up on the phone with the tech support bigwigs in NJ to help them figure it all out. Then they said 'tell your local office we said to give you two months free for all the problems'.......yeah, sure...like the local office is gonna take my word for it.
All I can say is I'm so glad I don't have to deal with those losers any more. I'd go back to a dialup connection rather than deal with those assholes. I'm so sorry everyone is having such a miserable time with them.

I'm giving Comcrap the national DumbAss of the week award after tonite...when I called their service line during the 2nd straight evening of service interuption, I got the recorded message system again...we are experiencing high call volume, blahblahblah...they suggest that if I want to do something like PAY MY BILL I should try going online at WWW.comcast.net...THEN they add that they are experiencing network problems in the middle TN area...yeah, right, :ahole:

Lilith

They will get a call from me today now that I am rested and can be logical in my complaints.

Yeah Comcast sucks but it's my only choice and it still beats the hell out of dial up!

Problem is they know that :(

Ain't it the truth...they know ya won't go back, they entice you with a giveaway "introductory offer", then they slam it to ya every month without any lube, & we all continue to pay for the priviledge of getting shafted...which is exactly why we all get so steamed when these breakdowns occur...for the price we pay, the reliability should not be an issue...

Still not as bad as the situation when I 1st got comcast a few years ago...they were originally on the Excite@home net, now that was a fiasco wrapped up with a disaster...Excite went under without any warning, & Comcast was trying to "help" us thru by suggesting everybody sign up for NetZero for the duration... :rolleyes2

My understanding is their main DNS server keeps going down. When you plug in the address http://www.yahoo.com the DNS server translates the URL to the actual IP address of that website. In this case you would be sent to http://66.94.230.44

They best be doing some serious pro-rating!

wyndhy

i hope so^^^
the rebooting of router and motem seemed to work very well last night. my dino-puter is working faster than it ever did...EVER.
they just put in the groundwork for fiber optics in our neighborhood a few weeks ago...it's the same $$ as dsl so i think we will eventually go with that. i know bigbad would really miss his dvr and the ability we have to do anything with our tv except go forward in time, so i think well be sticking with comcast insetad of getting a satellite. comcast has actually always been pretty good to us. i haven't called them yet but i'm sure if they don't pro-rate our bill they will at least give us a few free movie coupons. plus i love that when i call the puter help line (when they are not overloaded w/ calles that is :p ) they are always willing to help me out, even if it has nothing to do with them and everythign to do w/ my dino. and they don't cahrge a dime for it...well, not directly anyway. i'm sure it's wrapped into other costs.

Lilith
04-14-2005, 11:22 AM
I just got off the phone with them. They made me deal with the techie peeps first ...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! "No we can't tell you why or how long we expect this to continue."

In my area, rebooting the modem/puter did nothing...I went to bed with it still down.

Our problems have been for quite some time now, the pro-rated a week off my bill.

wyndhy
04-14-2005, 11:28 AM
that's not too bad...are you satisfied w/ a week?

Lilith
04-14-2005, 11:34 AM
Not really, because this problem has been going on here for more than a week and I am really very tired of having to deal with the the tech people who have no power to help me because it's their problem not mine. I don't appreciate being transferred to a calling center overseas when all I want is an answer and compensation for them being unreliable. If I have to get another ISP because they are down so often, then why keep them. * shrugs*

By dial-up,are you referring to one that uses your phone line? Please excuse me,I'm almost computer illiterate.I originally had AOL.At the time,I was doing
alot of temp work(mostly for ManPower)If I was on the computer & they called me for a job, they'd get a busy signal & call someone else.Understandable, because they have contracts to fulfill.I switched for just this reason.I was losing too much work.Whoever wanted a satellite, forget it.I
have had many friends, that got them & were very dissatisfied! Irish

Just noticed an article about this huge problem in the Detroit newspaper. Here's the link if anyone's interested.

This guy is the tech reporter for the paper and he really puts the blame where it belongs.....right in COMCRAP'S lap.

Wyndhy I do not fiddle with it at all, once set you do not have to do anything as long as the dish is not moved. As for outages it only happens during the worst thunderstorms for me, in the last year I might have lost 1 to 2 hours(closer to 1) because of storms. And my DVR will record for 100hrs and I can watch one show, watch one recorded show and record another all at the same time. :dizzy:

04-15-2005, 02:05 PM

It's Dish network, I have the full 180 channels plus local channels, no special channels, plus it is $5/mo/mo for dvr and $5/mo for second tv hook-up. It runs $62.97 a month. And it will be perfect when I can fast forward live tv. :hair:

I have comcast for both tv and internet and haven't had many problems. There was an article in the paper today as a matter of fact stating they were having trouble with their domain system, so I guess it just depends where you live.

maddy
04-15-2005, 08:16 PM
wyndhy, I have Directv due to some less than pleasant things I had heard about Dish (might have changed, but at the time you couldn't purchase the equipment and always and forever had a rental charge) and I wanted NFL Sunday Ticket which is a Directv feature. I pay about $55 a month for the package I have which is everything but the HBO type channels. Included in that is my charge of $5 for local channels and $5 for a second receiver. I do not have dvr's yet on the two tvs, but I think it's also $5. Mine goes out probably about 3-4 hours a year... and it's typically in terrible storms. The only thing that really bothers me is I instinctively go to the tv to see the live doppler radar during a storm :( But even with the few disadvantages I'd never go back to cable.

Comcast is currently smokin my ass for $134 a month, includes internet, basuc, digital, & several premium channels that the missus can't bring herself to give up...which means I have aprox. 1588321447536 channels, & nothing worth watching, esp if the Braves are on Turner South which local Comcrap refuses to carry...altho having all the premium channels can be fun when Real Sex 255 is on, or we can turn over to HBOLatin & watch movies in Spanish...
