I think clubbing books is a horrible idea, second only to burning them in the list of nasty things to do to books.

I am in too! I like the chapter by chapter discussion idea too... :D Perhaps starting a blog (they are free) that would announce the book and when people can meet in a chat room to discuss what they have read?
The blog can be set up to allow discussion posts - that way if a person missed the chat room she/he can still comment...
Just for giggles, I set one up here --> http://pixies-bookclub.blogspot.com/ so you all can see what one may look like. If you don't care for it I can delete it! :D

Wonderfull idea wyndhy!! I am in. Although I may not be able to hit the chats...I know a discussion board would be perfect!
I think we should also take turns deciding on the books we read. I've always wanted to start one up, but getting together tends to be difficult with everyone's schedules. So an online club would be great. And Nikki, I've always meant to get to the Anne Rice Beauty series. So that would be a great start in my opinion.
P.S. Lilith..I feel like I've had my head under a rock lately..I just noticed the new smilies. Love um! (and thanks for not nixing the sheep :baa: )
~Eliza
Ohhhhh I wanna play too! Count me in. I don't care what we read but I love the Anne Rice idea since I haven't read them and love her writing. The blog idea is very cool too and I am totally flexible about the chat meetings.
WI you cook and I will even do the dishes. ;)
Now what is the address to this adult book store? :D

chey! holy crap...you went above and beyond! that blog thing, but..uh..what's a blog lol just kidding...no i'm not  anyway, i checked it out and i think it would work except for the time zone problems... and schedule problems. or, wait!, maybe we could run a poll... okay, like this: start a thread for book suggestions then take those suggestions and poll them: winning book is the read for that... say... month...two months??? (how slow are you, lil? ;) )and the rest get rolled over into a new poll for the next book, adding any more suggestions to the new poll there may be and then start another thread... one for each chapter...oh shit nevermind it's getting complicated.

It was actually pretty easy to set up. The blog is pretty good as it would allow members to post what they thought about the book so far. A little threaded interactions all in one place. As far as an interactive chat we could use an irc room similar to the java chat here at Pixies which is pretty easy to set up too and could be linked from the blog. We could also have a thread in the General Chat section of Pixies to let everyone know what book is being read and a link to join in the discussion at the blog and/or live chat.
What is going to be hard is deciding on a book.. lol :D

*smacks forehead* so a blog discussion is not real-time? then that would work perfectly. can we use it to choose the books, too? or do that here? i'll help with whatever you need chey, but i'm a total tard when it comes to this stuff and you sound like you know what you're talking about ;) pm me with whatever or post it here. this is gonna be fun. thanks, chey.

Good Author to check out is Laurell K Hamilton--Her Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series is AWESOME--lots of vampires, shapeshifters, magic, and HOT STUDLY MEN! Her Merry Gentry series is totally great too--lots of magic and such that centers around seelie & unseelie sidhe(fey) and more HOT men and pretty steamy...well very steamy sex scenes(in both series). Where do I sign up for this thing?

That is a very good series!!! I have e-books 1-10 on my 'puter and would be willing to share if the Anita Blake series was chosen! And Anne Rice's Beauty series sound equally good!
Any more suggestions? Let me know! I can add them to the list!
I have updated the blog http://pixies-bookclub.blogspot.com/ with a list of those interested as well as the book titles suggested here along with a synopsis of each book for members to check out. Once wyndhy and I gather all of the suggestions a poll will be posted here so members can vote as to which book to start first!

I love this idea but I have to decline joining for two reasons. I'll either finish a book in one sitting or not be able to find time to pick it up for a week or two. I'll also fall behind because I am on dial-up and this puter is so slow that by the time I post anything, you'll be on to a whole other book!
OK...more than two reasons...
I don't sleep naked either!
LOL!
Carry on (without me, I'm saddened to say)!

I personally am not really interested in reading the same old type of stuff. While the Evanovich and Hamilton stuff is great fun, it's more like serials than literature that causes me to have to think (and I like them as an escape for that reason). I can read a book and talk about what I read but I was hoping to read books and learn by talking with others about how they perceive them. For me the idea of a book community/club is to spread my wings, move out of my comfort zone. Also I think choices should reflect our entire population of participants, books of interest to either sex.

I have also seen book clubs where members take turns introducing everyone else to a book. And they lead the discussion about that book because they are more familiar with it. Maybe that is another way of including a variety. But it wouldn't work if people are not willing to wade through eachother's choices. *shrugs* Just throwing things out.

While I like the idea of the sexy books (i.e., Anne's Sleeping Beauty series), I am also hoping this will get me outside the box of books I normally read. I'd also have a hard time explaining to Mrs. Aqua what I'm doing with a saucy romance novel. :p
I think we've got some good ideas for how to work this and I really appreciate wyndhy and Chey spearheading the drive to get this going. Bring on the nominations poll! :D
Oh, and I always sleep naked ;)

I like the idea of reading something different too. Something that would promote discussion and take me out of my box. I went to http://www.randomhouse.com/index.pperl and clicked on readers resources. In that tab there is a list of different genres that open a page with a book list. You can click on a title and there are group guides for discussions. Many of those catagories and books listed don't "pigeon hole" a reader by interests or gender but allow for many interests.
An example of this (non-fiction) catagory:
Tuesdays with Morrie
An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson
http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/display.pperl?isbn=076790592X&view=rg
I think using the Random House site as a guide, we can either go down the member list alphabetically or by birthdays and that person would pick a book out from their list (there are lots of them) and then we can use the discussion guide provided which would be available to all of us by a link. That way, the book is new to them too, and they don't have to "lead" a discussion and come up with questions for thoughts to ponder. The only thing that would have to be decided upon (by the group) is how far ahead to read and when to meet for either live discussion or threaded discussion on the blog, There each person can talk about anything that struck them about the book and ask any question they may have in additon to what is on the guide.
I think that the members who expressed an interest in the book discussion have varied interests and most would be willing to explore other readings. I would hope that each would be willing to pick up a book that they normally wouldn't read and take the plunge into something different.
In addition, most of the books listed can be found at the local public library if a person didn't want to invest $$$ into purchasing a book that they may not want or ever read again. Many of them are also available as e-books that can be downloaded at a very reasonable price.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Opinions? :D

One of my fave books! and I love the idea of everyone making a best choice from a list whether we vote or a selection is simply made.

One of my fave books! and I love the idea of everyone making a best choice from a list whether we vote or a selection is simply made.
I love the book too, and had often wondered what other's perceptions would be. I think that Tuesdays With Morrie is an individual book - meaning that each person will probably take something away that is different from someone else only because the life that they live is different. There are many selections similar to that on those lists.
What I like about the Random House site is that there are already discussion questions specific to the book. No one would have to read ahead in order to anticipate what to talk about. Makes it easier. There are also links to download the book as an ebook, audio book, or a place to purchase if someone wanted to. Easy, easy, easy... :D
And if we go down the list alphabetically by nick, each person would have the ability to pick something out in turn. Easy... :D
One of the stipulations that we could have is that everyone has to read the book naked.. and when there is a live discussion, you must be in the buff ;)
Sound good??? :D

I almost always read in the buff, but considering I could only participate in the discussion while at work... well, that might not work out so well. :p

As far as reading nude..... Can that wait til warmer weather? New England in Jan. just isn't a good time for that. brrrrrrrrrr!!!
I've never slept nude but with so many sexy, hot bodies to cuddle with it sounds good to me. :D

i think that is yet another excellent idea, lil (what do you come up with when you actually think about it...scary :p :D ) so ...we can use random house, or something similar, to help spring-board discussion ideas and go through people's suggestions alphabetically-by nic, not book :D- 'cuase people may not wanna give out b-days. it will free up the time that we woulda needed to wait for suggestions to come in and votes to be cast.
and teddy--put on a robe if you're cold hun...just leave it a bit open in the front ;)

I've been watching quietly from my little corner... and seeing the new spin of variety, I must say that I'm interested as well. Count me in... Can't guarantee I will make it through every book, I'm a hot and cold reader... read like mad when the mood strikes me and the take a long time to get re-motivated. But hopefully we'll see a nice variety of books that keep my interests piqued.
