Iowa State University has a student club called "Cuffs". This group teaches students the fine art of S&M, bondage, along with safe sex and being respectful to your partner.
At first, my "prudish" self thought the club really didn't belong in the college setting, much less receiving money from the university like the other more "tame" clubs... lol (They received $94 this year). However, after researching on the net, I thought that the club could be a refreshing change from the norm (chess club?).
What do you think?

The controversy escalated recently when assault charges were pressed against the club by outsiders. It appears that the flogging demonstration has been met with outrage even though the flogger and floggee were both consenting adults.

Beats the hell outta some of the other "fine" offerings at most colleges. LOL
College isn't just about academia, its about learning viewpoints, philosophies and cultures. That's what sets it apart from vocational schools.
I say more power to em. And my two cents on the assault charges...they're ludicris. You don't have a crime without a victim. They have a very strong case for false arrest charges.

We had a BDSM club called the Power Exchange, but it was disbanded last year or the year before because of the controversy. Too bad. :)

No matter what the endeavor, there will always be someone who condemns you because you do not believe as they do.
Situation normal.

Well hell! I never knew what I wanted to do to further my education level (never had a goal, dream, idea...of what I want to be when I grow up). How does one go about getting a degree and becoming a professor of S&M??? Geezzzzzzzzz! That's one of those jobs that you'd ask..."How come I never knew there was a demand for that sort of thing"?
I gotta get out more! Thanks for the insight Chey!

I was having some more thoughts about going back to school and getting my master's degree...perhaps I should be considering Iowa State seriously... ;)

LOL @ all of you!
I am still waiting for any news (if a report is going to appear) about the assault charges. I guess I don't understand how they can press charges against someone when the activity was concentual and in the context it was presented.

I really think that their Literature Club should write a chain letter about this.

many, many years ago (mid-seventies), I would guess that this budget of one hundred dollars allocated by the university is just enough for the organization to have a campus P.O. box for the fall and spring semesters with about ten bucks left over for photocopying of flyers.
This hardly constitutes an inappropriate level of support for a student organization. You couldn't buy much bondage gear with the money the kids received. It's not as if the university is throwing tons of money into a big black hole that actively degrades the intellectual and cultural life on campus as they are probably doing with, say, the athletic program.
