Sixteen years ago today, my life made a rather amazing turn-around. One of the most wonderful things happened and since that time I've had so much more than myself to be concerned about. Around 1 PM I ran madly into a hospitol worried, scared, and excited all at once and upon approaching a large window I saw for the first time a naked lone child with a white bow in a wisp of hair atop her head and life hasn't been the same since. I stood there almost breathless. She was so tiny, 5 lbs and 11 ounces to be exact. She'd been delivered by emergency c-section, so I missed her grand entrance. I remember it so well, staring at her, seeing my own reflection in the nursery glass. I thought, am I capable of being her protector and guide in this world? Am I fitting to be a mentor to such a perfect little girl? I'm not sure I've been the best at it but I am profoundly certain I'm proud of the results. She is funny, smart, pretty and one of her Dad's best friends. Her constant presence has been my rock throughout these years. Y'all my daughter's 16 today and I'm one proud Pop!

That is so sweet BigBear. On my 16th Birthday my dad had a dozen long stem red roses delivered to me. He said I would be getting lots of flowers in the years to come and he wanted to be the first to tell me how special I am.

Dad's are such an important part of a girls life and its so great that you know that and appreciate your role in her life. :)

Catch22, they also have the pleasure of meeting the Dad from Hell LOL She tried to introduce me to one already and he hid. Told her at school the next day, "I saw that big hairy man, I wasn't going over there!" LMAO

Jenn, you're too sweet thanks... I'm the one who's blessed though.

BigBear57---Congratulations.It's true that your priorities,in life,change.My
daughters are 34 & 36 now,but as a doorstop,I still have,that says---
"Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special,to be a Daddy!"One of
my daughters gave it to me,years ago,& it is still special to me.I also, keep a
note, that my youngest daughter gave me,a few years ago, after a particularly
rough time in her life!(Divorce,Youngest son's Autism diagnosis, etc)It says-
No matter how bad life gets,I can always depend on you & Ma!You'd be
suprised at how these things, mean so much to you! Irish

Hey Y'all, thanks so much for the well wishes and warnings too. We just got back and had a great time. She finally got to try The Olive Garden and managed to pick up a few "extras" too. Irish, because I know she'll be a legal driver soon I got her a cellphone. She's a pretty good driver but I feel better knowing she's just a few numbers from telling me when something's wrong. She's already got a car, her Mom got a deal on a used Toyota so she's set the be free....I guess that's what's made me sorta sentimental about this birthday. She'll have more to do elsewhere and I might not see as much of my baby. Like I said earlier though. I'm proud of who she is and trust that she knows how to act. <sigh> Just another milestone, but she's still my baby.

BigBear57---The cell phone is a good idea.I always told,my wife & daughters,
that it wasn't their driving that worried me,it was the other persons! At least with the phone, they can tell you that they're alright.I found MANY times, that
a cell phone is worth it's weight in Gold! Irish

Just a sidenote, when she awoke this morning I let her read the original post. I got the biggest hug ever. She didn't say anything but then she didn't have to.

Grumble I know your daughter is blessed with a great dad too my friend. Best wishes on her special day too and thanks for the comments. Thanks to ALL my Pixie friends. You just enrich the experience even more.
