Ok I got this email and figured I would post it. Who knows? Maybe this could work. *shrugs*
Subject: FW: No gas May 19th
>
>Fill up the day before!
>
>IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE
OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
>
>AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF
OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL
COMPANIES.
>
>THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT TO THEM DAY"
AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE
THAT DAY.
>
>THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY
PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.
>
>WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS
NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN
PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?
>
>REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT
THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING
COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON
EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING
MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!
>
>WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY,
WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
>
>SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE
YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS
OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" REMEMBER DO NOT BUY GAS!!!!

I don’t know where their numbers come from, but I’d like to send the oil companies the same message I got today. “FY!” I’ll give it a try. wtf?
Got this in my email today...i'm all for it

I've had that emailed to me about a dozen times in the past 3 years. My guess is that who ever originated it has no clue one way or the other. It'll drift on to an urban legend. Of course, regardless of who actually does it, we still will only have about an 8th of the us citizens who do it.
A good way to make sure it happened, is to contact the stores that sell gas, and have them contact their general manager, and have all the stores not sell it for a day.
But we all know that won't happen, because they'd lose their profits, therefore making it impossible for even county wide participation, let alone state, or country.
Gas is a nessecary evil, and one day, hopefully soon, the gas mogels are going to shit themselves when scientists actually figure out how to make a gas-like clone that will power cars just as easily, for an 8th of the price.
If the US government were really all that concerned with the gas prices as they are today, they could be nice, and go ahead and revoke the taxes they slap on it, and instead, tax the gas companies what they would tax us. Though, regardless, we'd still feel the rise, likely even more so.
A better way to 'stick it to the man' is to get yourself a bike. A 1 time purchase, and a whole summer of free transportation. Car pool to work, school, etc. Not filling up for a single day isn't going to effect them. They don't care, they want the money. Think bigger, and the effect on the economy, and your own personal gas costs, will lower.

But please think before you get in the car. Can you walk to your destination? This will help, too. Release yourself from the shackles however you can. Save a few cents, too!

For those who live in town, walk anywhere you can. Ride a bike. Use a wagon with kids. Use a stroller. It's not going to hurt anyone to get out and walk some. In the summer, I make it a point to take walks several times a week with my kids, even if it's just around the block (which is odd shaped, so it's about the size of 3 city blocks), or down the road to walgreens to get them each a small snack.
1 day won't make a difference in the overall gas prices, but leaving the keys at home, and using your legs will make a difference in your overall gas spending. :)

I do walk practically everywhere in this town. My husband and myself walk our children to and from school everyday. If walking is to far then we cycle. I do believe that this is a big step but for the ones who don't have the option of doing that I thought the "no gas" might give them a way to start doing something about gas issues. Just me. *shrugs*

The media is giving this a little play today. It should be interesting to see how effective this internet organized boycott is, if at all. The net financial effect to the oil companies will be nothing at best if the same amount of fuel is purchased, no matter what DAY it’s gotten. I am more interested in seeing what a grass roots, internet coordination can actually do.
I’m also wondering how many OTHER entities are watching the effectiveness of this little experiment? IF, by the slim chance it does have any notable effect, could this medium be seen as a security concern by paranoid reactionary authorities? What might be their reaction and considered method of dealing with it? Is it being watched as a potential tool that could be used for misinformation during an event by the bad guys? What other people of true power and influence are watching this and with what potential purpose could they be thinking?
“Oh what a tangled web we weave.” ;)
LMAO:D
I don't believe that refraining from buying gas for only one day will do anything. Most people that won't buy gas today filled up yesterday or will fill up tomorrow. The same amount of gas will be sold. As was mentioned earlier, the thing that will really send a message is to not use gas. Tomorrow (Thursday) is Bike to Work Day. If everyone rode their bike instead of using gas, well, I think that would be more productive than not buying gas for one day.

I received that e-mail a few weeks ago and sent it out to all my family and friends. Now whether it helped I don't know......... but I know I stayed away from the PUMP.
In fact three weeks ago I got rid of my Gas Guzzling Truck and bought me a New Car. One that won't use as much and still looks great and handles well.

There was similar email doing the rounds a few years ago - about the time of the fuel protests here in the UK. Basically in that one it told how you could "force" the oil companies to lwer their prices by everyone for a month not using for e.g. Shell. Thus hitting them in the profits making them drop their prices to encourage people to return. If this was repaeted for evry oil company they would get the message. I don't know how effective it would be but I would have thought it would have more effect then the single day boycott. Trouble here in the UK is though that the government takes £8.00 for evry £10.00 you spend on fuel. To them the driver is the goose that lays the golden egg.
