Anyone have any sedatives?

-shivers- I really hate going to the dentist. Really, really, really hate it. However, I had some tooth pain yesterday, and doped myself up for bed, and even with a sleeping pill, I was up at 3:30 again, with bad pain. Haven't been back to bed, and my jaw is very visably swollen. My whole lower jaw area on the left side of my face is puffy. :(

Ok, so seriously, anyone got a sedative?

I know just what you mean - still once the hard bit is over you should, hopefully, feel better.

I hope evrything goes well for you.
I had to go the dentist last week when I had a filling break out of a tooth. At least the gas was fun! But I wish they had left it on me until after they gave me the bill!

Ugh! Damn them! I get myself all psyched out, and in the chair, and they tell me I need antibiotics before they can work on it! I have to wait until next wenseday now! My face looks like someone slugged me right across my jaw.

I have many bottles of Pain Pills, that you can have!Unfortunately,
the newest is at least two yrs outdated!Suggestion:When I still
drank,my dentist,in Conn.,was upstairs from a bar.I never took novocaine,so he would say to me-"This is going to take alot of work! You better go downstairs & have a couple more shots"It
doesn't kill the pain but you don't care! Irish

Gilly, I totally feel for you :( That sucks that your tooth's infected, though sitting through the dentist will be much less painful if the infection's gone first, trust me!

I avoid the dentist until the last minute, too...it's horrible. I've got a cavity now that'll need to be looked at soon and I just keep putting it off. Last time I was there, they pulled a tooth, and the dental assistant had to leave because I was freaking her out with my hysterics, lol.

Watch those sedatives. And watch those dentists too. My ex had some work done and was given a pill that made her extremely drowsy. She woke up to find the doc fingering her. Nice guy, huh?

Ugh, Denny! That sounds horrible! My dentist is a woman, as are all the hygenists that I've seen there.

Irish- Yeah, shots would help, but give me novacaine any day. I can't do the gas. When I was about 5 or 6, and went to the dentist for the first few times, they didn't realize that I couldn't breath through my nose very good, so the gas wasn't being drawn into my body. I went through 3 pretty wretched, slightly numbed cavity fillings, being mostly unable to breath, which has lead to a rather healthy dose of being scared to death of going to the dentist.

After she does a root canal next week, she's going to put a crown on the tooth, to stop it from decaying further. I was surprised, there's very little root damage.

Why don’t you get some of the stuff that Steph is using? A visit to the dentist can’t be too bad for her. She goes every week just to get her teeth SHARPENED

Well, the good news is.... oh, fuck it, there is no good news. My damn jaw is puffed up just as badly, and it's bruising now.

You'd be surprised, most of that pain is probably from the infection and not from the tooth itself. Give the medicine a day or two and you'll be fealing much better. I hate dentists because I always need so much done and they never seem to understand I can't afford to get it all done at once! But the actual dental work doesn't bother me too bad. I've had some horrible military dentists though! Lol But now that my husband's out of the Army I'd kill for free dental.:o :D

Yeah, the tooth itself stopped hurting yesterday, and most of the pain is in the swollen area's, around my jaw and cheek. It's absolutly huge still. Ugh.

Gilly---There's a very good chance, that Kissy is right & most of the
pain is from the infection & related things.I know that when you're
in pain, time seems to creep but give the medicine time!(Easy for
me to say!) Irish

-grins- well, they said 24-48 hours for the swelling to go down, and it won't be 24 hours until about 1:30 this afternoon. BLAH!

Back from the dentist- again! Not for me, though. My 8 year old had to get 2 avities filled, but they were rather tiny still. Unfortunatly, she has a tooth that was pretty decayed in the back, and they weren't planning to pull it because she said it never bothered her. The unfortate part is that in the past few weeks, it's really started to bug her, and she has to go in next Thursday and have it extracted. So, back to back appt's next week again, too.

I swear, all this dentist time must be bad for my health.... right?

Just got back from my appointment. She numbed me, started the root canal, and found that she couldn't get it done, because no matter how much novacain she was giving me, I could still feel it. So, she stopped doing that, referred me to a specialist, AND, didn't charge for any of the work she did to that tooth.

Then, since I was there already, she filled two cavities I hade on my two front teeth. Basically the inner ridge on both those teeth, there was a small cavity started that was back to back on both teeth. It had a slightly curved in section, as well as some translucent area's on my two front teeth.

They look perfectly normal now, YAY! Also, she smoothed out the bottom of each of them to be flat. ;)

Hmmm... I don't mind going to the dentist at all. Sometimes it hurts a little, but I just close my eyes and zone out. I think I am one of my dentist's fave patients. :p

My teeth feel weird now, with the fillings on my two front teeth. They're also really suseptable to the cold. -eyes her slurpee-

Gilly---Try Sensodine Toothpaste!I have used it,(at my Dentists
suggestion)&,(for most people)it cuts out most of the sensitivity,
from temp,etc. Irish

Gilly

Back from the dentist, again. Today was Raegan's turn, to get a tooth pulled out.

Not a fun visit. I can safely say she'll be terrified of dentists now, like I used to be. I don't think it was hurting her, but she was very nervous before going in, and it kept increasing as they started, until she was screaming her head off, and fighting the dentist. :( The dentist tried for almost an hour to get at the tooth, and only got it partially extracted. She referred us to an oral surgeon, who will knock Rae out to do the procedure. She also recommended having them perscribe her something like vallum to take before hand, so she won't be as scared.

Oddly, that's sooooo much like I was when I was a kid. Right down to having to take vallum for a dentist visit.
