Okay, a handful of you are aware that I HAVE been lurking in the Pixies IRC chatroom even if I haven't been on the forums since January. And a few of you have heard I've not quite been feeling 100% these last few weeks. So I thought I'd set the record straight on all that.
6 weeks ago I woke up at 4:30 in the morning with a sore throat, and my sinuses were starting to hurt, bad. I went to work and did a full day's work anyway, still feeling miserable, but.....
I called my regular MD's office Saturday morning, got put through to a nurse, explained that I thought I was coming down with a sinus infection, and was told that that can't be possible, as I'd only had the symptoms for a little over 24 hours, and it takes longer than that for them to manifest.
So, that weekend I went and stocked up on cough syrups and cold medicine, went back to work Monday, and was really out of it. I called my allergist's office that morning (I've been going to her, for my allergies, since the mid 1980s), found out they had a noon opening, and I got permission to leave work and go in (my voice was starting to strain as well)....
I got a nebulizer treatment in the office (other asthmatics should know what that is) and she said that not only did I have a serious sinus infection, but it was trying to spread into my ears and lungs, and I caught it JUST before it developed into bronchitis. She put me on 3 weeks of an antibiotic., told me to drop my antihistimine and decongestant, and come back in 3 weeks.
That first week I lost my voice, but regained it by the next weekend. I took all the pills as directed, went back, but wasn't feeling a lot better. I got a SECOND nebulizer treatment, another antibiotic, and another drug. And she said come back in another two weeks.
That was this past Monday. I'm still not totally over it, so she ordered a CT scan of my sinuses, performed Wednesday evening, and at this point I await the results.

I feel your pain I just went through all that with my 3 year old and it seems like MDs are just idiots looking for another dollar. My son had to go to the urgent care center before i got any results.

I heard from my allergist on Monday. She discussed the results of the CT scan with me, and recommended I take it AND the films they did (another CT scan) in late 2002 and consult with an ENT. So I've started looking for those (in my copious *ha* spare time).....
My allergist also suggested possibly going back on allergy shots, but I think I'll consult with the ENT first ;)

ENT = ear, nose, throat. Duh! I shoulda thought of that. TY Eliza. :)
But you're right, it could be a tree creature.....
If the 'T' stands for tree, what are the 'E & N'?
I haven't seen the movie (don't tell Sharni) So I can't think of anything fitting.
All I come up with is:
Every New Tree
or
Eat No Trees
or
Enemy Now Trees
ok, I'm done being silly.... for a few minutes anyway. :D :D

Absolutely NO offense meant to ANYONE here, but I'm glad I didn't say "I have to go to an Otolaryngologist." :)
That's the technical name for an ENT doc.
I apologize, I thought the abbreviation was more widely known. Thanks Eliza for doing the 'splaining for me ;)
Wow, I've even been to an ENT doc and didn't catch it... lol
BTW, Teddy, how about...

Okay, so for whomever's still keeping score, Friday was the ENT visit. He looked at the CT films (the recent ones), glanced at the CT reports (from this year and 2002) and gave me two choices:
1) a 1-2 punch of TWO antibiotics AND a corticosteroid for a few days, then come back in 3 weeks
or
2) Get in there and "clean out" (his words) my sinuses.
I went with #1.
Next appt. is June 4th.
(which will be 10 weeks since all this first started)
