It might sound something like this; 1.When a loed one comes home, always run to greet them.2.Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.3.Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstacy.4.When it is in YOUR best interest, practice obedience.5.Let others know when they invade your territory.6.Take naps.7.Stretch before rising.8.Run,romp and play daily.9Thrive on attention and let people touch you.10.Avoide biting, when simple growl will do.11.On warm days, stop to lie on your back in the grass.12.On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.13.When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.14.No matter how often you are scolded, don't buy ito the guilt thing and pout...Run right back and make friends.15.Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.16.Eat with gusto and enthusasim stop when you have had enough.17Be loyal, never pretend to be something you're not.18.If what you want is buried, dig until you find it.19.When someone is having a bad day,be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

lakritze---Everything that you mentioned,fit my previous dog perfectly!He lived with us,for 11 1/2 yrs.I had to have him put down,2 days,before Thanksgiving,2 yrs ago.I realise now,that his
qualities,were perfect.My wife can't get over,how much,I still miss
him.I used to refer to him as my Black son.(Black Lab/Roty combo)
He was a family member,not just a pet.We never boarded him.He
loved to ride & we always took him with us.Thank You! Irish
P.S.We have two daughters, that's why the Black son, reference.

Great post Lakritze ... dogs have it figured out.
And Irish ... know what you mean about Black Labs -- It's been a year since I put my lab down. Labs ... goldens ... faithful to a fault. All they ever want is praise from their master and will sacrifice their own comfort to please.

We can learn a lot from dogs, can't we?
(Oh, yeah, and their sniffing other people's crotches ... doesn't mean anything. :D)

My Lab is a loyal suck, too. He would also advise you to stop every 10 feet to smell the roses, look for garbage, pee, etc.
