I need some computer help please

I have downloaded something that has changed the home page of my browser from blank to <<th.msie.cc/index.php?aid=20035.>> This has happened befor and all I had to do was select tool- internet options - general and could set it back to blank. This time when I try to do that the "Use Current" "Use Default" "Use Blank" buttons are greyed out so I can't change it.

I thought it might be a case of adware or spy ware causing this so I ran Spybot S&D to try to kill it but that didn't help either. As a last resort I did a file search of the C drive to see what might have been created on yesterdays date, hoping to find something in the temp folders but I didn't see anything except cookies( which I deleted) and some .txt files which I did create.

If it will help any I am using Windows XP and IE 6.0

I sure would like to get my hands on the #&*%$@*^R$&s that are responsible for the sites that do this to you.

This is the most helpful place I have ever had help. I had a similar problem and it was affecting my computer so badly that I was finding it impossible to help here in the forums.

Just post a thread in spyware/highjacking.......tell them what's happening. Follow their instructions exactly.

((hugs)) I know how fucking irritating that shit it. I also got Google Toolbar and it has helped stop the pop ups that were my downfall too.

Outside of the actual browser, under your settings file, there should be an Internet Settings button. It should look identical to the one in your browser, but it works outside of it. I had a similiar problem about a month ago, and was spitting nails trying to change it. I finally uncovered that, and it allowed me to reset my home page. The downside is that my settings in the browser still won't work.

Run ad-aware 6.0 by Lava Soft, as well as Spybot. Both are free, and will nix just about anything out there. What one doesn't catch, the other often does. I usually run mine about twice a week. Even with a pop up killer, I still get crap that sneaks through.

The people at the link I gave you will show you how to remove the catalyst from your system all together not just the temp files and traces left by it (as Spybot and AdWare tend to do). There are sites that activate previously installed hacks and trojans. You need to remove them at the source. Nothing worse than thinking you have it fixed only to have it reappear the minute you start surfin' again. Be sure to check your Spybot for updates I just downloaded a bunch of them.
