Do you have a hobby, habit or something that most people think is just plain nerdy or geeky???
I am a believer that we all have some type of quirk or fetish that others would view that way...
I refuse to answer on the grounds of Starbucks coffee.

Well, you've all seen my pink batman shorts.
Other than that, it's just this little pet peeve I've got... I can't stand it when my wife folds the laundry. She folds it downstairs without sorting it, so that when I bring it upstairs, it has to be dumped out and sorted before I can put it away...often resulting in refolding.

<---has to count, in her head, the stairs as she descends, but not when ascending.
<----also has a specific aisle pattern when shopping at the grocery store.
(BTW, WI--I fold downstairs, too, but sort, THEN bring up.) ;)

I have to have reading material on hand at all times. Even if it's just the cereal box at the breakfast table.

I never take the first item on a shelf or rack in a store. If I find an item I like...I just know everyone before me has fondled, shook, squeezed...etc. (in other words...got their germs all over it and messed it up) and so I have to take at least the second, but preferably the last, of it's kind on the shelf or rack! Hubby used to get perturbed at this quirk in me, but now does the same thing since buying something (taking the first one from the shelf) and getting it home, only to find out parts were missing!
I'm a step counter too, IAKG! Up AND down!
When reading a book and I have to stop for some reason.....I won't stop till I'm at the end of a chapter or at the very least, the end of a paragraph. This is unless the house is on fire! In that case...I'll at least finish the sentence I'm on! LOL!
I correct grammar and spelling in others and I could smack myself for it because I know there are times when I am wrong and should be corrected (and I don't like coming across as a smartass). And....in those times I'll stand corrected and yet resent the need for another to have to correct me! Not because I don't think I should be corrected.....but that I am pissed at myself for not seeing it first! Geezzzzz....that is soooooo stinking anal I hate typing it! ROFL!

<---- has almost memorized the Lysol bottle.
And Lixy, there used to be a hidden benefit from taking the item from the back of the shelf. Lots of times, when the price went up (and they actually put little stickers right on the cans) they never rotated the product so the cans in the back were still priced at the old amount!

See? My mother taught me that manuever! I toll ya'll she was a smart-ass....er.....smart woman! LOL!
P.S. to my earlier reply.....
My oldest sister visited this weekend, and her and bro-in-law and me an hubby went shopping for luggage for our trip this coming October. Sis was next to Mr. Lix when he chose the luggage we wanted.....and proceeded to ask him to lift the first bag out so she could get to the next one. He turned to me and said, "I see it runs in the family". Sis said mom had taught us well! LOL!

I am a neat freak. One of those "everything in it's place" people. I have a friend who -- when he visits -- will change the orientation of something (say, the pepper shaker) slightly (when I am not looking) and literally time me to see how long it takes me to fix it.
I also *hate* nick-nacks and clutter. Hummels, teddy bears, and anything (other than books) that gathers dust are not welcome in my home.
As for hobbies? Other than sex? :D My greatest guilty pleasure is reading spy books (think Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum). Oh, and I play jazz trombone (poorly). :D

I have this thing about the way I fold my money.
All the bills have to be facing the same way and straightened so that none of the corners are folded. Then they are sorted so the all the smaller bills are on the outside and I fold them in half with backs of the bills showing. People have gotten upset with me as I stand in line after I am given my change and make my money meet my standards. Also bills that are torn or have been torn and taped together drive me nuts and are the first ones spent.

Two hobbies that are considered geeky by the general public.
1. amateur radio.... I do not like to talk on the radio, I like to build the radio bits and pieces (VHF/UHF/SHF for the other radio geeks in the forum)
2. photography... not so geeky, until you understand that while I like to take pictures of many things, the thing I like best is trains... the big ones. I can spend most of a weekend sitting by the side of the tracks waiting for them to come by just so I can snap a picture :D

I had this thing I got off my mum. As a single mum she would buy the largest cartons of milk we have in english stores (about 6 pints) because they were cheaper per pint. However, there were only 3 of us in the house, so she would look for what she called "a good date" so that we would have as many days as posible to drink it in before it went funny. No good having 6 pints of milk go off before we can drink it, would be wasting precious money. As we reached our teens, she would send us to the local convenience store for a bottle of milk and we would be told to check it had "a good date on it". The funny bit is when I grew up and left home. I am the only person in our house that drinks semi-skimmed milk so it is even more important to get a good date on the milk, but my darling didn't know what I meant by this. So after about a year, one day in the dairy ailse, he asks me what I mean and I explained it. He wondered if it was like a wine vintage being a good year, wether milk from a wednesday is better than a saturday or something, but once he knew he understood.

Funny, many years as a cashier make me do almost the same... but in my case the larger bills are on the outside of the fold (I need to try and fool people in believing that I have more than I do... well maybe not, but the big bills are on the outside). Also, for some odd reason, my wallet (held in back left pocket) is only for money from the ATM/credit cards/license/etc. All other money (i.e. change in the form of bills, money people might give me, etc) is folded and in my front left pocket (even if of greater denomination than the ATM money).

Always turning off lights that the kids/wife have left on. Night lights are okay, but it always bugged me to see six to ten lights on in a room with no one in it. :(
Another money folder here, but larger bills inside.
Used to do a lot of minatures war-gaming, but haven't done that for a few years. Mainly WWII micro-armour.
