I wouldn't be surprised if the USA could beat Australia at soccer.

errrrr USA beat England not too long ago.
in fact according to the FIFA world rankings USA are 11th (as of 14th Jan 2004).
Scotland - 51
England - 8
Wales - 65
I'll get back to you on Australia :)

It looks like if you want a nice easy game you need to be playing Montserrat ranked 204 !

FussyPucker,
Well how about that! After being incidental for so long! I'm surprised that the news doesn't get about better.
Thanks for the link. It is worth using now!

The most difficult part of that would be finding 11 people who could find Montserrat.
Despite my Scottish ancestry, I've not kept up on the matches for the national team, who's the starting 11 anymore? I used to play Fifa on the PS2 with friends representing Scotland and had a great time of it but I'm sure may of those players are out of international competition now (don't even know if any of them are playing at all since the rat bastards stopped carrying the weekly EPL/world soccer show on my cable system) Can't even get MLS because it's on the upper set of channels, so I'm left with Mexican soccer on Spanish language channels. It's fun but not the same. What's the problem in Australia? Aren't Viduka, Kewell etc. still playing?

Viduka just got a club suspension for not turning up to an international friendly. He claimed to have a hamstring injury but the assuie football authorities didn't believe him. bit harsh if you ask me the guys just got back from Oz where he was visiting his sick father!

That's too bad I really like Viduka(and Kewell) from their time at Leeds, bu I'm sure things will be sorted out by the time the competiton turns less ...um friendly.

well i can hardly feel sorry for mark(o) viduka!
he is the same guy that refused to play in the second half of a game once because he couldnt be arsed! a team mate then punched him!!!!
I know his dad is ill and all but i'm sure it wouldn't have stopped him playing for leeds this weekend!
Soccer a game spoiled by money and greed!!!!!!

Canada is ranked at 87. Jump across the pond and kick the ball around here. Seems you might have a good chance.

Australia is ranked poorly, as far as I can tell, because the other countries in the Ocenia group are awful, and our route to the World Cup is quite tough.

yeah well wot was it u won a couple of years ago 37 nil or something????????
U noramlly have to play teams with 8 farmers 2 sheep and a cow in goals, the only hard route u have is when they have to play the south american tean in the play off's

That's exactly what I'm saying, we're either playing teams who it's barely worth defeating for all the boost it gets us in the rankings, or tough South American teams. There would be a lot of countries who regularly participate in World Cups who wouldn't make it given the same qualification route.

I know this might be a serious subject for some...but my first thought was...
Take up knitting!
NOTE TO SELF: Learn to keep out of sports threads and keep your thoughts to yourself!

well the Aussies might suck at soccer but we do have the world champ cricket (test and one day) team, Olympic Gold medal hockey team, excellent rugby league and Rugby Union teams, excellent swimmer, surfers, cyclists, basketball and plenty of others.
Must be some good Scottish teams in some sports.
