Volunteer work.

Of all the important things in our life there are some that consume lots of hours and receive very little recognition. I’m talking about people volunteering there time for there community. The work that these people do enrich us and make our community, our Country, our World a better place to live. But so often these people do not receive the recognition that they deserve.

I want to know, do you volunteer in your community? What do you do?

Thank-you for all your time and energy you so kindly give.

Thank you campingboy.

I am the leader of a Senior Girl Scout Troop. (grades 9 - college) They are terrific young women and our countries future. Its great to be a part of thier lives.

I am also the Girl Scouts Service Unit Manager of 2 towns. Which basically boils down to 'I'm the leader of the leaders' and responsible for 18 troops and the organizing of community events.

btw... don't mention that I'm a Pixie. lol. ;) :D

campingboy,

I am the chaiman of the adult leadership committee for a Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack.

The Scout Master and Cub Master are the adult public faces of Scouts. The other committee members tend to work behind the scenes to enable them to help the boys.

I mentor several young engineering women at Ohio State on being females inthe workplace.

I also mentor a few ex-subordinates, serve on a food line (monthly), and teach a class on "real world" economics for at-risk high school students.

Of all my activities, I like teaching the high schoolers the most. They don't act like they care that you come to teach them, but they secretly do.

Nothing quite so important as the rest but I'm the ASM (Assistant Stage Manger) for the community theater at the local college. Can't really put the show on without us.

Ummm...I put stereo systems in kids cars so they can 'express themselves' by annoying the piss outta us older folks with their loud bass..lol. Seriously...I admire anyone who gives their time and energy to help others. Have thought about joining the Peace Corps recently..but not sure where to start.

Four main things ...

Part of an organzation that does a lot of charitable work.

Collect furniture, clothing and appliances for the less fortunate in Appalachia. Once a year several of us travel there to help with house repairs and things like that.

Visit with the elderly and take communion to shut-ins. My wife and I just took some Valentine's candy and a small gift to a lovely lady in her eighties who was finally moved to a nursing home.

Sponsor a young lady in Mexico.
