View Full Version : Audio Help???
I know there's quite a few computer gurus out there in Pixieland. Maybe one of you can answer this question or point me in the right direction. I have a bunch of old cassette tapes that I'd love to be able to burn to CD or at least put them on my hard drive. I'd love to be able to just go out and buy the CD replacement, but when there's over 200 tapes..that'd get a bit expensive. Anyone know of a way to hook up a cassette player to a computer or any software that might help?

Windows computer?
In that case, you have Sound Recorder built in. Run cables (RCA to 1/8", probably, ask if you need help), hit record on Sound Recorder (in Accessories|Entertainment) hit play on the cassette, and record until the music stops.
Computers that came with Creative Sound Blasters have slightly better recording applications (light versions of Cubase, Cakewalk, etc.).
Companies like www.m-audio.com and www.echoaudio.com make much better audio cards starting at about US$100.
After you have captured the audio, you will burn a CD, either with Windows XP's built in burning utility, or with Nero Burning Rom, Roxio, or some other burning program. I think Nero and Roxio also have recording programs built in.
Good luck, and let me know if I wasn't clear on anything.

Nero's always been more stable for me, but it's not as pretty as Roxio. You can always use the CD burning built into Windows XP.
I have recorded a few tapes into my computer using MusicMatch Jukebox (Free Version). You can set the recorder to take the signal from the line-in jack of your soundcard and then record it as one long track, or stop after each song and have your songs split up into seperate files. You can also choose to save your recording as a .wav file or an .mp3.
