Ok, look, I've been pondering this for years but never thought I'd find anyone who might be able to help me: when Sade sings, "You give me, keep giving me the SWEETEST TABOO etc. etc. etc." which taboo is she talking about?

If someone can definitively answer this I might be able to finally get a peaceful night's sleep.

Thanks,

NIK

Don't listen to PF, she meant anal sex, I think. :)

I think only Sade can answer this! Search for her website (she must have one...right?) and she might have a fan club link....and maybe someone....or even her, herself...can answer that for you! I think it's open to interpretation!

Welcum to the wonderful (diversified) world of Pixies...Nik Satyr!

Oh SHIT! Now I'm gonna be singing that song all day! LOL!

Okay, okay, I like all these answers. I was with Steph for a long time (only because it fit neatly into my personal fantasy life). Anal was a lot more taboo in 1987 (?) than it is now don't you think? But what about miscegenation. Could it be she is referring to what Spike Lee calls, "Jungle Fever?"

NIK

PS Can't say I love the idea of a celibate Sade.

Nik ~ I think you are spot on. That was what I thought she was referring to when I first listened to the song years ago. That was also the taboo that was most prevalent in my mind in the mid 80s as it was still an issue then. Thank Goddess for the progress.

I did try to look up info on it but did not really find anything. I think the beauty of a song like that is the way you can apply it to whatever you consider taboo but participate in regardless.
