I used to have the same reservations both on performing anal sex on a girl or having a girl finger me.

1) Take a shower right before sex. Pay extra special attention to the anal area to make sure it is very clean and wash your hands thouroughly whilst in the shower.

2) Use plenty of lube!

3) Wear a condom! I had a friend of mine who gave anal sex to his fiancee one time and well he got a little poo on his dick! The poor girl had to put up with years of begging before being sodomized again.

What exactly are your concerns about anal? That it is messy or dirty?
It isn't, really. Unless she hasn't been to the toilet in a while. If you're really worried, try a small enema beforehand to empty her out.

For the male it is tighter around the penis. Also, you feel more heat. That is how it feels to me anyhow. You need a lot of lube as well.
