Okay, I know individuals have done these before (especially Sharni, in sigs), but rather than focusing on one of the three films, or extended DVD releases vs. actual movies, just throw up a favorite quote and source it. I'll start with an example.

Andy Serkis (in the new book Gollum: How We Made Movie Magic) talks about a flight BACK to New Zealand in April of 2003:

I pulled out my battered old copy of The Lord of the Rings to reread the Cirith Ungol chapter, and suddenly one of the flight attendants tapped me on the shoulder.
"Have you seen the films?" she asked, handing me a hot towel. Resisting the urge to burst out of my seat, crawl on all fours and rasp, "Yes, precioussss!" I nodded politely as she leaned in and conspiratorially bosted, "You'll never guess who we had on the flight the other day."
"Who?" I replied. She whispered seductively, "The good looking one witht he long blond hair ... Whatsisname?" I shrugged innocently.

Sir Ian McKellen

I was suggesting to Peter yesterday he should insert some love interest for Gandalf in a later one. He suggested Galadriel... I said, no, I was thinking more of someone like Legolas

I got to dress up in funny clothes and run around New Zealand with a bow and arrow for 18 months, how bad could that be?

'Vig used to call me 'Elf boy', and I'd call him 'filthy human'. As an Elf, I never got a scratch on me, never got dirty. And Vig would come out with blood and sweat all over him. And he'd say to me, 'Oh, go manicure your nails.'

Viggo Mortenson

As difficult and exhausting as this project was for everyone, there was an element of play, like kids in a game. But I wasn't seven years old in my backyard with a wooden sword pretending I'm in a deep, misty forest with monsters coming at me. I was actually there. I was wet and tired, and there were a hundred guys coming at me full blast. If I didn't remember the choreography, I knew I was really going to get whacked. But I loved it.

Viggo Mortenson on Aragorn

An orphan raised by elves. A little like Moses. He knows the best and bravest of his forefathers screwed up. They were not immune to the corrupting temptations of the ring. So why should he, a distant and diluted descendant of a noble line, fare any better? He becomes a master of disguise and assumes different names, living a nomadic, hit-and-run existence. Like the Lone Ranger, he helps people and disappears. The Shire is protected by people like him, who patrol the borders and keep the bad guys at bay.
