Has anyone here ever been in an accident in a moving van? If so did your private insurance company cover the claims? Did you have any trouble getting things covered?

My buddy did not judge the width of the box (behind the cab of the truck) right. He cleared the rear end of a pickup with the nose, only to smash it with the box part of the truck. He did about 2k worth of damage to the pickup.

I know that his insurance covered it and he had no problems (I wish I could remember who he's covered by).

I had to rent a moving van when I moved from Texas back to Iowa. My regular auto insurance did cover any accidents that would happen, plus the extra insurance I purchased from the rental place (U-Haul). But that didn't cover any of the items that I had in the van itself. I purchased a special policy to cover the contents of the van which most rental places do recommend that you do, but is optional.

Now, if there was another vehicle involved and the accident was that driver's fault - their insurance should cover contents. If the van had a mechanical problem that caused the accident, the rental place would be liable - but good luck with that.

and messed up alot of suspension parts underneath

yeah for me, oh and we took off, got in trouble later cause my plate fell off,
so i got a hit and run, and i have to pay restitution and i can't get in trouble until after march otherwise i get the second ticket that they are going to hold until March 31st of next year

Thanks for the info. I have Progressive and with not a single ticket or accident in more than 20 years they sent a certified letter saying that they most likely will not be covering the claim.

<~~~~~livid pissed...looks like that vacation you guys helped me plan may not happen:(
