Ok I have been working disabled for quite awhile but I have got to fix this! It's driving me nuts. I use XP and when I first got this system I had no trouble saving any pics etc off the web as any type of file. Now when I right click on any image no matter whether it's an animated gif or a .jpg my puter will ONLY let me save it as a .bmp. I know I must be able to fix that!!!! Any body got any ideas! I hope so I can't save anything cool I find on the web with out having to go back and convert later. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

Not too sure I can be any help Lilith.... only thing that springs to mind is what I found out the other week when I was having problems with my Explorer.....
.....if you go to Add/Remove programs and select Internet Explorer it (should!!) give you the option to "Fix" it.... that's what sorted things out on mine. I use Windows ME though, and I'm not certain if you get the same options with XP!
Good Luck! :)

Tyler simply says you have to have the right software - any kind of graphic tool.
That sounds too simple to me but he just woke up . . .

I have the right software. It worked when I first started on this puter, but I am sure I just got a setting fucked up somewhere. Was hoping someone might have a clue as to which one and where.
Tell Tyler I said thanks!

the only suggestion I can come up with... using XP allows you to do a system restore.. allowing you to pick a date and time to set your system back to. IF you can remember when this started to happen, then you can pick a date prior to that time and that will solve your problem :)
I only know this because SS helped me while I was in a panic...

TY jennaflowers~ I was kind of saving that as a last resort! I had to do that when I first got the system!

Dunno if this will work Lil...
To change the program that opens a file
Open My Documents.
If the file you want is not located in My Documents or its subfolders, use Search to find it. To open Search, click Start, and then click Search.
Right-click the file you want to open in a different program, and then click Properties.
On the General tab, click Change.
Click the name of the program in which you want the file to open.
Notes
To open My Documents, click Start, and then click My Documents.
This change affects all files that have the same file name extension as the file you selected. For example, if you change the program that opens a .jpg file, all .jpg files will open in this program.
You can also change the program that opens a file by right-clicking the file, clicking Open With, and then clicking the program name. If the program you want is not displayed, click Browse.
Just pick whatever graphic tool you use as the one to open these files....

TY Sharni I tried all of it.
My problem is how my computer is allowing me to save the images in the first place. I can only save images off the web regardless of their type as .bmp It sucks botty!

Thanks everyone who tried to help me. I went hunting and found it's a IE6 glitch that can occur when your hidden internet temp cache file gets full or when you have objects that are unknown, uninstalled, or damaged in your settings!
YAYAYAYAYAYAYYAY! It's all better!
