View Full Version : Genital shaving question

But instead of how or oh-god-why-does-it-itch, I have a question about the cutting tools. Whats best to use? Razors (reg), safety razors, electric, or creams (nair types).

I myself was thinking about the electric (something like a $45 norelco) for facial and areas above and to the sides of the shaft (do those triple circular blades on electrics get scrotum hair?). Ive heard of women using it to shave their legs so I would guess using it a little higher wouldnt hurt, which brings me to another question. Has anyone used a higher end electric razor down there and get any pulling?

Up to this point I've shaved some parts down there and cant say I like the feeling of razor burn, thus my thinking of getting an electric.

Opinions? :sex:

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I shouldve put this under advice. My apologies, I hope it can stay here though.

I use a triple edge razor in the shower after I am done soaping up and rinseing off, makes the hair softer, whith out any creams or anything. I have done it dry a few times, but need to have the hair trimmed as short as possible and always, use a new razor and start off with going with the direction of growth first, atleast untill you get used to it.

I use a triple-blade razor too - Gillette Mach 3. Works a treat!!

Am curious about electric shavers too - anybody got any experiences?

I just used an electric razor and it worked wonderfully! Since I'm not really used to using one, I found it a bit difficult to shave all areas with it because I found it unwieldy in some areas so I'd suggest using Nair on the hard to reach regions.

I don't have a scrotum so I don't know if you could reach there :) My girlie parts that are near where the scrotum would be . . . I couldn't reach them. :)

I have tried an electric razor before and had problems with pulling. I would be curious what kind of razor you used Steph :) I also use a Mach 3.....works fantastic :p

I have no idea . . . it's my boyfriend's razor (don't tell him!) :) There was no pulling at all - the hair just dropped away.

I highly recommend the Feather Touch shaver, which operates on one C battery. It's not cheap, but it's worth it. I've tried every kind of regular razor out there--single blade, double blade, and triple blade, and I still end up w/a rash of razor bumps afterwards (pun intended). I have far less trouble when I use the Feather Touch shaver, and it does shave closer than you'd imagine. Like I said, it isn't cheap, but then the cost of those triple-edge blades and the shaving cream or gel adds up, too.

When I first got that shaver, it was called the Midas Touch 8000. I wasn't very happy w/it; it got dull right away. The Feather Touch has stayed sharp much longer. Also, you can get replacement blades now as well. I know that men can use it, too, not just because they say so but because the first time I ever heard about this shaver was in a review of it written by a man.

Here's a link for it:

Here's a link to the main site:

http://www.2sensualproducts.com/productlist.html (Some of their nonshaving products sound a little bizarre; please don't judge the shaver based on them.)

Like the site says, you have to be shaved or trimmed pretty closely at first, so it comes w/a trimmer called the Lady Fair Double-Edged Trimmer. It works well, but be careful w/it; it doesn't have a safety edge and can pull or take bites out at times. If you have a razor w/a safety edge trimmer already or a beard trimmer w/a safety edge trimmer already, I would recommend using it at first. Once you are trimmed down and are using the Feather Touch daily or every other day, you won't need to use a trimmer anyway.

I also have tried Remington's MSC 100 MicroScreen shaver. It's the cheapest one they make--$9.97 at Wal-Mart. Even it works quite well for the price. Sometimes I alternate between the Feather Touch and the Remington or use the Remington and immediately follow up w/the Feather Touch.

I've never used the rotary type of shaver but have always hoped to find someone who has to see if it pulls or not.

BTW, the company that sells the Feather Touch is wonderful about helping you out if you have a problem at all w/their products. The first Midas Touch I got had a defective cover (it wouldn't stay screwed on; they replaced it cheerfully right away). When I wrote them many months later asking if they sold replacement blades because mine dulled quickly, they instead replaced the entire shaver w/the Feather Touch. I haven't had to buy replacement blades for this Feather Touch yet, and I've been using it almost daily for many months.

Good luck!

OK, well I bought a cheap foil razor from the supermarket the other day.... a cheap Braun 370. It cost about US$6 :)

Verdict - it's actually really good! It doesn't pull or anything, and there's no danger of cutting myself, which is great :) I haven't had any rash or anything - no problems at all.
Only problem is, it's not quite a close enough shave for my liking. It's good, but not great!
It's good for the 'off days' when I can't be bothered shaving in the shower, just as a quick touch up.....

But I'd expect the higher-priced ones to be much better from that point of view, so I look forward to more reviews!

Casper, how close was the shave you got (as hard as it might be to describe, try :p )? Oh, and what size were the hairs when you shaved with it?

Also, BlueSwede, arnt the rotary blades in the feather touch what norelco uses as well (well, same principle, but missing the 'lift up then cut' technology)?

And thinking back, all the people whove complained about electrics pulling never said how long the hairs were to begin with. Maybe they didnt trim thier hairs short enough. Hell, maybe it would be better to shave once then use an electric (rotary) from then on for the stubble.

Bah, Ill find out soon enough :D

How close? Um, yeah, you're right - very hard to describe!
Ummmmm ok, think about your face - if you shaved this morning, my pubes were the length your whiskers would be tomorrow morning when I started. After the electric razor, they were down to about the size of your stubble at 5pm, maybe less. But soft, not prickly or rough.

I think that makes sense!!!

I'm very happy, anyway - like I said it's great for touch-ups, and 'in between' days.

And it came with a 'long hair trimmer' function, that seems to work really well on the longer hairs too.

The few times I've gone back to using a double- or triple-edge blade, I was disappointed that the result wasn't that much smoother than when I used the Feather Touch shaver. And then I was stuck w/razor bumps again a day or less afterward. The tiny bit of closeness I might lose in using the Feather Touch instead of a razor was well worth not looking like I have some ugly red rash less than a day after shaving.

I sure hope you'll like it! :) Keep in mind that they do sell replacement blades, too. Like I said, I haven't felt I need to get a new blade yet; I just make sure I use the brush to clean it out after each use and I use it daily or every other day. If the hair gets to be...say...an eighth of an inch or longer, it wants to glide over it rather than shave it.

Ok, I finally got a norelco and tried it doen there.

Close shave: yes, but not as close as a razor and some REALLY small stubble didnt want to get picked up easily.

pulling: It only pulls on hairs that are too long, the built in trimmer should take care of those though. Even when it did pull it did'nt hurt anywhere as much as some people make it out to be (big babies :p )

irritation:Yes, but since its the first time Im not thinking much of it. The feeling is that of light itching of which the likes remind me of what you get if you were to leave a massager on you for too long.

Cut the sack: Nope, felt really wierd though, I ran the trimmer over it once (nipped some skin but no accual cuts). I also cut mostly the sides, down the center there are still somes hairs because I wasnt brave enough to go over it yet :p . Ill talk about this one in a later update.

Should you get it: It all depends. If youve already been using a razor for a while, keep at it. If you want to try something different and have some cash to burn, I say at least try it (most have COMPANY garauntee plans so you can return it straight to them if your local store wont take it back after a certain time). I guess its just another cutting device your skin will have to get to, so first times should be a bit annoying.

NOTE: My irritated skin MIGHT be because I didnt charge it the recommended FULL 12 hours, I left it more like 7 (I couldnt wait ;) ) and NORMAL recharge time is 8 hours I think. So I guess Ill update after 2-3 more shaves. ALSO, norelco says that sometimes it can take up to 21 days of use to fully get used to it. Those are just some things to keep in mind.

Any other questions?

I'm afraid I can't compare an electric (rotary) shaver w/the Feather Touch, because I'm not sure how the rotary (w/those two or three circles, right?) works. The top of the Feather Touch looks and feels more like a micromesh shaver (well...it IS one, but it's a round one, not a long rectangular bar like on most shavers). I don't know how clear I am being. For some reason, though, I do believe that the Feather Touch would give you a closer shave than what the rotary shaver would. Did you go to their site and look at a pix of it?

I'll be interested to read what you have to say after you've used the Norelco a few more times.

I'm a chic and the way I do mine it just a basic razor... i dont use shaving cream or soap, with those i was always left with a rash. i just use baby power... make sure you're dry, dump on the powder and wahla. no razor burn, no itch and the skin is soft... a mustache trimmer keeps landing strip short.

I've used an electric shaver before (made for the face) and it has the 3 rotary blades behind a screen. It works fine closest to the body but for the scrotum sack area I would not use it again.....mine either pulls or slightly nicks the small bumps on my skin and hurts.

I've been searching a lot on the web and I also found the feather touch, but I haven't seen or heard enough about it to justify buying it.....although it looks like it might help me a lot.

Been using hubbies Mach 3 lately. He says he doesn't mind (but did when I used his other shavers) because this one has 3 blades and rinses completely...therefore cutting down on the razor burn left from "dead" spots in shavers with hair that won't rinse away! Some soap or shaving cream (don't get the stuff with eucalyptus in it....whew!) for sensitive skin and the Mach 3 (not the newer one with the lube strip)....and VOILA! Pretty as a picture! Don't believe me.....check out some of my threads, whointhewhatnow!

BTW....I forgot to mention that I shave all the sensitive areas (I think the pussy lips are as or more sensitive than the scrotum) cept I leave a teeny tiny landing strip (cause panties or jeans seem to irritate me there.....not the shaving).

Sorry for the shameless advertising of my threads......and did I mention.......WELCUM TO PIXIES? Oops! I meant to! LOL!

Hope this gives you another alternative!
