View Full Version : What you like (?) about work...

I'm doing a little technology consulting (or as we call it, consluting) right now, and working a 4 day work week - Mon-Thurs. I could get to quite like this, 10 hours a day but 3 days off....
Anyone have anything they LIKE about their job? Or something they miss about an old job? Or something that would make work better (aside from flings with a cute new hire, which I would expect about every pixie to say)....

This is a trick question right??
The only thing that could make it better...was if i didn't have to go!!!

I like that we can wear whatever we want, the bosses are easygoing and we laugh all the time. Like dadaist's 'geek humour' thread, the hold button is definitely a good thing. Actually, the mute button is a good one.
I like that when I go home, work stays at work but I miss the intellectual challenge of past jobs . . .
Well, I work in an auto parts store. So I guess my favorite part is playing "Mr.Man" when the women come in and want to know "why my car is making funny noises"..lol. The occasional, "can you help me put these wipers on?" isn't bad either.

I miss being able to flirt shamelessly with the pharmacist who was only about 10 years older than me at the drugstore where I used to work...I still believe that if I had only been a couple of years older, we would've become very passionate lovers. Too bad I was underage and he had a live-in girlfriend at the time. *sigh*

Ah yes, nothing like unrequited at work flirting. None of my ex co-workers have really stayed in touch like they promised they would either, natch.

I like that I am able to help those that can't help themselves

Helping people, at times, can be quite rewarding. Depends on how impatient and nasty they are, or if they're willing to listen and learn. :P

I like that I only work one day a week, set my own hours, and can take my children with me.

I can set my own hours........or I used to be able to till they limited our days to 9-10 hours max. Mine usually have to be 9 hours because I have to be in on Friday to get last minute things done. But.......the one and only thing I like about my job is quitting time!

I love the challenge that each new day brings, of being in a position to help make my company better each and every day.
The $$$ is OK, too!!!! :D

Currently Professionally Unemployed. Really like this job~ But the pay sucks :D
I was a Paramedic for a bezillion years. I am one of few who can say I honestly loved my job. I don't miss the political BS of working for the Gov't (ie: county) But the hours rocked. I worked 24 on/ 48 off.
I loved the interaction and helping people in crisis. Sometimes there was great sadness, but the rewards of being there for people when they are at their worst outweighed it all.
Not to mention people in that situation enjoy a bad joke and a warm smile. Flirting with everyone. Rooming and hangin with hot Firemen and cops. Definetly not a bad gig.
Not to mention civil service workers are the largest group of sadistically funny practical joke playing horn dawgs in the world. I fit right in :D
See now I am missing it all bad again. :(

DB was right.Being retired is nice, but going home was nice also.
At least, you knew that another day was done. When I was a
foreman, you always worried about the end result.Eventho my crew was, very, reliable, you were still responsible for the end result.
The Work Boats,that we built,were $200.000 before options,+
lives were at stake. Irish
P.S.There were 13 men+me,on my crew!
