View Full Version : ~ Affairs ~

I was listening to the radio this morning and they said a study came out that showed that men(who have affairs) typically cheat only once or twice but that women (who have affairs) usually do so an average of 5-6 times.
One of the radio people suggested it is because women often place an emotional attachment to sex and therefore are more likely to have long term affairs vs. one night stands.
Any thoughts?

Well that opinion seems to be backwards of the numbers....

I mean with the same person... not idividual affairs.

All I can tell you is that my ex-husband may have had one-nightstands, but he'd do it over and over and over again, for 22 years. How many times did I ever have one? None. I DO agree w/you that there may be more of an emotional investment in it for more women than men, with exceptions on both sides.

The numbers sound about right to me. I think women would be more likely to turn it into an affair.
Can't say that I know from first hand experience though. If I want to wander ... I end the relationship first. The whole "Do unto others ..." thing, I guess.

I think the reason that women are more emotionally involved with someone with whom they are cheating is because they would not risk their marriage for the sake of meaningless sex.
I feel it is one of the fundamental differences between men and women and it becomes a stumbling block for many couples:
If a husband has a one night stand, he sees it as meaningless and sees that it does not affect his feelings for his wife, while his wife feels is devastated that he would risk their whole life together for the sake of one meaningless night with someone else. She feels that means their relationship is worthless.
On the other hand, a woman who has a long term affair, feels that it is not as bad as having a one nighter, while her husband finds that far more hurtful as he can't just put it down to a momentary lapse in self control.
Just another of my many theories, feel free to disagree with me as much as you like! :D
