I just heard they are remaking Willie Wonka!!! It is one of my all time faves and I think Gene Wilder is a GOD!!! OK I can not remember what I heard...so can someone confirm one of these. Either Tim Curry is Wonka or Tim Burton is making it....have you heard which?

And is this a good idea?

Amen Brother Skip I agree totally. To me it is akin to someone remaking the Wizard of Oz. It is uncessary to do as the first is perfection and timeless.

In an official press release Warner Brothers said: "Marilyn Manson has not been cast in a role in the upcoming Warner Brothers Pictures film Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory.

"Additionally, the director of the project is not Tim Burton. Gary Ross is directing the film, currently in development from a screenplay by Scott Frank, which he is adapting from the beloved Roald Dahl novel."

I believe that "original thoughts" and "Hollywood" are mutually exclusive.

Remaking a classic like this is heresy!!!

They're unable to THINK of anything ORIGINAL so all they do anymore is remake classics, make cartoons or comic strips into movies, or make movies out of old television programs.

I think any producer/director/head of movie studio that attempts any further UN-original movies in the future should be put into stocks and publicly flogged!!!

This will just be another that I boycott and do not see. With some rare exceptions I never see remakes.

Willy Wonka is one of my all time favorite movies.. when my son was little... I really wanted to dress him up like a umpa lumpa.. no one would let me tho. LOL

My understanding is that Tim Burton has been tentatively chosen as the director, altho it will not be finalized until the author's estate has given final approbal..

Not only do I really have strong hesitation about them messing with Wonka in the first place... but I really don't think that Burton is the one to do it... Not to say he isn't good... but he is ever UNIQUE and not at all what I think about Wonka.

Wouldn't that be all of them except Spielberg and Lucas?

No, that pretty much covers ALL of the major producers and whatnot of hollywood. Most of the stoies you see are remakes of indy short films and classics that have been forgotten..

edit: I just realized how snobby that sounds, I'm sorry. I don't mean it in THAT snobby of a way. :spin:

Well Well Well bet you didn't expect this thread coming back up !

Actor Johnny Depp, the star of Pirates of the Caribbean, has been offered the role of Willy Wonka in a new film, according to reports.

Also going against the Warner Borthers official press release it would appear that Tim Burton IS directing it !!!

Did anybody actually see Tim Burton's remake of The Planet of the Apes? Tim Curry would be too old for the part.Gene Wilder at his best,The Producers, Young Frankenstein and that movie where he went to prison with Richard Pryor.Forgot the name of it.
