when you click "Post Reply" the smilies box is on the left just click on the smilie you want

Or if you now the vB code you can type it in for the desired smilie.
Some smilies are just the old : plus ) together for a smily face :) . A : and D together are a big grin :D . A ; and ) is a wink. Some are words inside of colon's... : Put 'mad' between two colon's and get the mad face. :mad: Or 'sw' between colon's for the Emperor from Star Wars :sw: 'eek' :eek: 'bite' :bite: I hope that isn't too confusing. Like T-S said you can also click the post reply button and then just double click the smilies on the left to put them into your message.
