I get this craving from time to time. I don't indulge till I know I'll be alone. It's one of those things that if people saw me eat it they would go.......EWWWWWWWWWWWW!
I like sardines in mustard sauce on rye bread.
**waiting for all the ewwwwwwwwww's to stop**
Do you like something that everyone you know would go ewwwww......if they saw you eating it?
Hubby eats peanut butter, jelly and potato chip sandwiches......which isn't all that ewwwwwww......but is rather peculiar.
Tell me what you love to eat that most people might think is gross!

Oh, Lixy! I was just thinking about this as a thread the other day. That is *too* funny. :D
Since I was a child, I've had this thing for sweet pickles and milk...*crave* them, in fact. I also drool over regular potato chips and orange juice, or grape Kool-aid. Yum!

My daughter always turns her nose up when I eat Swedish rye bread with peanut butter on it dunked in coffee with cream and sugar or sweetner. I grew up on it.

Shar.......I know what bread, vegemite and lemonade are (though I've never had vegemite) but what kind of cream? Whipped? and I'm stumped as to the milo so I can't even say ewwwwwwww! LOL!
Lilith......I think that sounds yummy! Sometimes if there is really nothing to eat (as I am not a snacker of chips and candy, per-say) and I do get the munchies....I'll eat a dill pickle and miracle whip sandwich on whole wheat. LOL!

I'm with you--some of these *do* sound yummy. Maybe we're not as weird as we think. :)

But one thing that I LOVE that my hubby thinks is gross is:
Grilled Cheese with dill pickle chips and tomato soup.

Cheyanne, you'd fit right in with my family. They say I'm not a good Swede, because I don't like pickled herring; I'm the only one who isn't crazy about it. Ewwwwwww.... :D

Same with me BlueSwede...I get looks of disbelief from my Swedish family as well since I can't stand the pickled herring.

BlondeCurlGirl, I'll even take the lutefisk over the pickled herring! :D
Home made french fries on a sandwich with mayo!

Grilled Cheese with dill pickle, chips and tomato soup. Wow, two people with good taste! :D :D
I may have to try the PB&J with chips. Hmmmm.
My wife and kids love macaroni and cheese with ketshup on it. Never could talk myself into that one.

I'm kinda fond of "cheesy beanos"....... which is simply baked beans on toast, covered in thick, melted cheese..... liberally covered in HP sauce! (Brown sauce, kinda spicy and yummy!!!)
A friend of mine is very partial to blue cheese & marmalade sandwiches, sprinkled in sugar and toasted! Never could quite force myself to try that!

Round these parts BCG, they put applebutter on cottage cheese. The first time I saw it I thought it was brown gravy. Now that would be ewwwwwww.......or would it? LOL!
Thanks for the web site Shar.......I shoulda known that but it didn't register! I love the little boy on the site.....pumping the cow's tail instead of milking her!
As to the pickle responses.......I thought I was the only one to put pickles on just about everything. Haven't tried it on my sardines yet......but I do have these spicy homemade pickles I could try. But, if you aren't careful with these pickles and be sure to bite them after an in-breath......you could choke on them......lmao! You shouldn't be inhaling while you bite these.
Most all this stuff doesn't sound too ewwwwww to me yet! I know people who eat cow tongue and a luncheon meat called blood and tongue....ewwww! And while I'm on luncheon meats....WTF is headcheese? LMAO!

OMG Lil! Is that true? Folks round these parts go gaga over it! I go gag-gag when I see it! Ewwwwwww! There's an example of something I would use for bait!
And another ewwwwwwww I just can't bring myself to try.......the Pa, Dutch are famous for stuffing something (might be brains) into a cow or pig stomach and boiling it! WTF is up with that and why? LMAO!

Oh yes another "odd" thing I eat (so my hubby says) is scrambled eggs with ketchup.
I have eaten this since I was a lil girl. Of course I ate EVERYTHING with ketchup when I was lil. My mom said I have ketchup in my veins instead of blood. :)

One of my favorites is peanut butter on a hot dog. Or try dill pickles and mustard on a hot dog. Also love ketchup on scrambled eggs. Ever tried mayo on french fries? Another item I like but is kinda gross is fried chitterlings (pronounced "chittlins" here in the South). I have 2 basic requirements about any food I eat 1, it has to be dead and 2, it is not pineapple

most of my friends do not like pickled eggs... I love 'em.
As for odd, that would be scrambled eggs with grape jelly (added after they have been served, not cooked in there). I have no idea what got me doing that as a kid, but I still like it.

Peanut butter on a hot dog sounds pretty gross to me. I've never had a pickled egg and don't have a big urge to run out and try one. The grape jelly on scrambled eggs sounds good to me; I usually but grape or strawberry jelly on my egg mcmuffin at McDonald's.

I've read some strange treats on this thread. I don't have any 'odd' snacks of my own but my granddad taught me to enjoy the smellier cheeses of the world. Yes, I love limburger and similar cheeses. Any compatriots out there?

Here's one for ya....I am of Swedish decent and every holiday our family has something called Ludefisk. Basically it is cod that has been soaked in a mild lye water and then boiled. Makes sushi seem tame by comparison!! LOL! It is basically the consistancy of slime and then topped with a white gravy. The kids in the family seem to go thru an acclimation to it...each year they are served just a little more than the year before. After about 20 years or so, I became quite fond of it. Think it is a nostalgia thing for me since we only had it on special occasions. Oh yeah, and then there's Ostakaka...a curdled milk pudding served with lingonberrys....

Lilith, I am with you on the cheese there, but I can think of some cheese you probably wouldn't want to try...have you ever heard about some of the cheese making methods in Mexico/CA in the last decade or so?
"in April 1997, the California Milk Advisory Board contacted officials at the state's Department of Health Services and Department of Food and Agriculture to discuss the severity of the problem. Mexican-style licensed cheese manufacturers, dairy industry representatives, county health department contacts as well representatives from the aforementioned state agencies convened and determined that the manufacture and sale of Mexican-style cheese by unlicensed vendors was a time-bomb waiting to explode.
Similar illnesses had been reported in numerous California Hispanic communities. State investigations revealed that "bathtub cheese" is often manufactured in unsanitary conditions such as basements, garages, homes and, as mentioned, bathtubs using sub-standard equipment and refrigeration (skeletal remains of a cat carcass were located next to where cheese was made in one backyard shed, and a dirty toilet brush was used to clean equipment in another facility). Salmonella and Listeria bacteria can develop in illegally produced cheese, resulting in severe illness and even death. These bacteria cannot be detected by sight, taste or smell. "

m45, lutefisk can be darned good, especially if you bake it rather than boil it. :)
OK, melted cheddar cheese on banana bread - or alternatively toast the banana bread and spread on cream cheese.
and
grilled cheese sandwich with maple syrup .... kind of like a poor man's Montecristo sandwich I guess.
