I was unpacking a load of merchandise tonight and found a set of cup and saucers that had an unusual mark on the bottom. The mark read 'Made in German Democratic Republik'. Now I have seen things marked Republic before but never with the K. Can anyone tell me any information on this type of mark.

I would greatly appreciate it. I will even consider making another batch of cupcakes for the info. hehe

Looks like it refers to Germany between 1949-1990 from the info I can get off historical sites. I am sure other members have better info for you though!

The non-english spelling is Deutsche Demokratische Republik and some manufacturers did not change the K in republic when they translated for export. Lilith is correct on the 49-90 thing.

So basically you are back to the brand to know if it is worth anything.
