View Full Version : Midwest FEST!!!!!

Spring is around the corner... and summer fun will follow soon after. There are sooo many fun things to do once the weather permits and the best things include spending time with wonderful friends... so I was thinkin... (aren't ya all scared what comes next?)....

There are many people here at pixies that I would absolutely love to meet... altho those of us who love pixies are spread around the world.. there is a large number of us that reside within the midwest US (or within driving distance to it).

Would anyone be interested in getting together for a Fest? What is a Fest you ask? Simple.. a gathering where those who desire to.. can come meet and get to know fellow pixies. Odds are since once we gather together we aren't gonna want to seperate for a bit.. it would probably be best to get together on a weekend :) Dinner.. dancing.. picnics at the park... all depending on the location that everyone decides on.

Personally, I would be more than willing to go to St. Louis, Kansas City, or even here in the Branson Area... anywhere that there is lots of accomidations... lots of things to do...

so what do you guys & gals think? Anyone interested?

Did I mention the several white sandy beaches loaded with college babes? Or the jet-ski rentals? Or the Ozrks #1 nightclub:
Planet Branson ?

Well......ok, "Planet Branson" is only 2 or 3 years old... used to be "Gutiars and Cadillacs", but in my neck of the world it's #1 for the college crowd. Old fogies like me prefer the local C/W and Oldies bars and such...

I shall keep trying to figure this one out. :) ;)

Sounds like one very groovy party! But chances are, something with school or having to get a real job will get in the way for me :p A roadtrip to a party sure seems like it'd be fun...we'll just have to see... count me in as a "maybe!" :)

Murphy
03-03-2003, 03:22 PM
Well, it looks like there's alot of interest... I'm going to start a poll to try and see what dates are the best for everyone....If we start planning this early..who knows, it might just work!

Count me in. I'm in the Branson/Table Rock Lake area 5 or 9 times each spring/summer. Let me know when and I'll send my uncle to Vegas then we can take over his lake front cabin...

Well to him it's "the cabin" to me it's one hell of a place.

Hey that sounds like fun....Let the partying begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's see if we can firm it up and hopefully I can make it.. How long of a drive is it SS?

Stillwater
03-06-2003, 07:13 PM
score! it's like, yes the idea is fantastic, and yes i would love to meet everyone...

of course problems arise. currently i'm suffering from transportation woes. However i'm like, connected in the hotel scene so i can get some decent, like... 25 bucks a night rooms for people at hotels along i-44 (between springfield and st louis.)

thats only in this great state of misery, however.

i don't know who the offical planning organizers are and who would like to be in attendence. i recommend a survay jobby, each person who wants to attend fills out how many miles they would be willing to drive, if they would be willing to car pool, how long they would stay, if they would need a hotel, how much they were willing to spend, what times would be good for them.. then we can start thinking of location location location.

I love the idea!

peace 2 yall

Don't need an ID to sit 'round a campfire on private property...

And lots of the places we'd be going are fun even if you aren't drinking...

I have to look at the poll and see about the dates...

dadaist
03-20-2003, 12:51 AM
Well if we're all 'go' on this, as soon as dates are firm let me know, and let me know where to book. I guess I'm just gonna need a room for myself. And if anyone wants a lift from NW Indiana, NE Illinois, SE Wisconsin or any point along I-55 or I-44 before Springfield, let me know.

Sugarsprinkles
04-04-2003, 07:21 PM
As far as I know, it's still a go. Murphy's been extremely busy and just hasn't had many opportunities to get online and keep everyone posted. I know those of us that live here are looking forward to meeting everyone who makes the trip.

Murphy
04-08-2003, 10:18 AM
Yes everyone, the Fest is still a GO! I've posted the Dates in the "MidwestFest - Dates" thread, but I'll recap here:

1st weekend: June 20-22
Week: June 23- 27
Last Weekend: June 27- 30

Pick any or all of the dates and e-mail me, or PM Me, Sugarsprinkles, or Jennaflower to request a mailer. I've found lodging plans to fit any budget from $10/night camping on the lake on up to 5-star hotels. Hope to see y'all there!

dadaist
04-12-2003, 06:01 AM
Hmm. I've got FOUR vacation days left between now and June 30th. As of July first I get new ones for next fiscal year. I guess I could stretch into a 3 day weekend, if you guys are interested in me tagging along....
I realize there's going to be a lot of people staying at a lot of places, but is there going to be a central point so everyone can meet each other?

Murphy
04-12-2003, 07:32 AM
Come on down Dadaist! As far as a central point, nothing has been discussed yet, but there are several places we can reserve picinic shelters, I'm going to look into one for both fridays...

Murphy
04-22-2003, 09:35 AM
Correct that to both SATURDAYS. The Corps of Engineers Picinic area at Table Rock Dam is about the best place to meet. I will have maps of the area in the mailers I'm putting together. PM either me or Sugarsprinkles with your Snailmail addy to request a MidwestFest mailer. Hope to see many of y'all there!

Midnight Kiss
04-23-2003, 08:13 PM
OMG, I can't wait to meet everyone, I will have a spare bedroom, maybe 2 :D. I am just in Omaha, which is about 15 miles south of Branson.

Murphy
05-05-2003, 08:01 PM
BUMP!!!!

PM Murphy or Sugarsprinkles to request a mailer

Hope to see y'all there!

June 20-29, Branson Mo

Murphy
05-14-2003, 03:48 PM
Latest news! Got Wally-world to change my vacation so I can meet people almost any time from noon saturday 6/21 to late evening sunday 6/29! Mailers were sent out last week to those who requested them, but there's still time to request one and make your plans to meet other midwest Pixies!

dadaist
05-14-2003, 04:49 PM
Well. Now I have no plans at all for the end of June. So I guess I can show up and leave whenever I would have to...
Send me whatever details you think I'd need to actually FIND people around Branson, I'll see what I can do about the travel. Probably just charge the gas on a card or two.

Just got a suprise call from my bro yesterday... it seems that him and my sis are planning on suprising my parents and coming out to Branson along with their kids...

Altho I am completely ecstatic about this (I am very close to my bro and haven't seen any of them in 2 years)... I am upset that it just so happens to coincide with the Fest. It is my understanding that they will be arriving here on June 21st (also happens to be my bday) and staying until the 26th or 27th....

this means that the only days that I can be remotely available to meet everyone will be the last 3 days of the scheduled fest..

I do sooooo want to meet up tho...

Will there be camping? I would like to attend if I can manage to find out the logistics to make it possible. If there are shedualed events, (I.e. Camping certain nights, are certain members going to host "backyard recreationals" where we can enjoy bar-b-ques and such? Will there be time set aside for Branson city visits and going out dancing/clubbing, or will that be up to the individual members to deside? I'm curious what's on the agenda and if it's a "bring a friend" party or a small social.

Stillwater
05-21-2003, 01:14 AM
Oh, and dadaist if you're offering and not going to be full up in the car by the time you get here I might ask for a lift from along I-44

Good lawd Stillwater that be a lot of questions...I think a big cook out/picnic is planned...as well as a night out or two on the town...would say bring as many friends as ya want...

just wanted to let it be known that it looks like i will be busy most of that week but will have SS send all my love to everyone who shows

Cabrylla
05-27-2003, 02:19 AM

Murphy
05-27-2003, 07:42 AM
Confirming what Cabrylla said.. Picinic at noon Saturday June 21 at the Table Rock Lake State Park, just south of the Dam on Hwy 165 & 265. I'm bringing a picinic platter, and we're asking those that can to bring non-alcoholic beverages or munchies. Sorry, but the public parks around here don't allow alcohol

Well, the first MidwestFest picinic was enjoyed by Murphy, Sugarsprinkles, Cabrylla, their families, and (via telephone) Kleclere. It was a most enjoyable picinic, with Bratwurst, Chicken, potatoe salad, SS's special bean dip, as well as asorted chips and such. Murphy's daughter enjoyed swimming in the lake.

Alas, due to poor direction giving by Murphy (Me), Midnight Kiss was directed to the wrong meeting place. I am Soooooo sorry MK, hope you can make it to Wednessday night's Karoke at:
The Midnight Rose, Hwy 13, Branson West, MO. from 9pm untill??

Missouri Weather... I wanted to come down there Today (wed) but it was so late late late by the time I got off work and then the weather was horrible... perhaps I'll be able to attend this weekend. I'm hoping to.

Sugarsprinkles
06-27-2003, 05:23 AM
Pixie's Karaoke night was nice, although a bit on the quiet side. Attendees were Murphy, Mrs. Murphy, Midnight Kiss and her friend, and yours truly. Cabrylla wasn't able to attend because she had to get up early for work the next morning. Of our party Murphy was the only one brave enough to get up and sing. See attached Pic.........
He did a great job on "You've LOst That Lovin' Feelin'", "Brandy", and a couple others I can't recall.
As Stillwater mentioned in the previous post, the weather Wednesday night was just awful. Midnight Kiss left a bit early because she needed to get home to her youngster who is afraid of storms. After that, the rest of us decided to call it a night and we were all home by midnight.

We opened the package that Lilith was gracious enough to send for us. But since #1 it arrived after the picnic when we had hoped to have the biggest turnout, and #2 we didn't have a big enough group together when we opened it, we weren't able to play with the 'goodies' the way Lilith intended.
I know you're all dying of curiosity to know what Lilith sent us so here is the itemized list:

1. A box of individual sized bottles of soap bubbles. Lil suggested that we blow bubbles while others of us slow danced. (Alas, no dancing at the bar.)

2. A Truth or Dare game. No explanation necessary. (Kind of hard to play over the music and pool playing/players.)

3. Some candy necklaces. Lilith suggested we pull numbers and then eat the necklaces off each other's necks. Very creative, Lilith! (Again the surroundings and poor m to f ratio made it an awkward proposition.)

4. And finally, a package of PIXY STIX!!!! As Lilith said, "Just Because!" For those that are unfamiliar with Pixy Stix, they are paper straws filled with flavored powder, kind of like Kool Aid.

We'll hold on to the bubbles and the Truth or Dare game for next year's fest, which by the way is going to be June 19-16, 2004.
The candy necklaces will be divided up and passed out, and the same will be done with the Pixy Stix. I plan on meeting Midnight Kiss for lunch one day soon and will bring some of each for her.

THANK YOU, LILITH!!!!!

It was so sweet of you to send all these goodies to help make our Pixies Midwest Fest even more fun than it promised to be!!!
