Found this in my Internet wanderings, and thought you might enjoy. I *definitely* qualify. :D

You know you're a child of the '80s if...

You remember Don Johnson when he was "cool"

You know who shot J.R

You remember when Michael Jackson was actually considered something of a sex symbol

You practice getting in and out of your car through the windows

You owned at least one skinny leather tie.

Your first Walkman weighed 10 pounds and was the size of a brick.

You wore L.A. Gear tennis shoes.

You know the meaning of Wax on/Wax Off

You're always "in the mood for dancing"

If you can "See Better" with sunglasses that have paint splattered all over the lenses.

You can feel St. Elmo's fire burnin' in you.

You need a shopping cart to carry your personal stereo with you.

You remember what Michael Jackson looked like before the surgery.

You go rollerskating every Friday night (not to skate, but to 'hang out')

You still want to take Karate...(after you move to California)

You watch NYPD Blue thinking, "Well, they're no Crockett and Tubbs, that's for sure".

"Outrageous!" is the term to describe something neat and cool

You think that Garbage Pail Kids are your children's worst enemy

You had a poster of Bo, Luke & Daisy Duke

There was nothing to question about Bert n' Ernie living together

The phrase "Where's the beef?" still doubles you over with laughter.

You went out and purchased the sound track for 'Miami Vice'

You remember the magazines of song lyrics

If you think Hulk Hogan is the best wrestler of all time.

If the best non-slasher movie in your opinion is An American Werewolf In London.

Two words: The Clapper.

Six words: "This is your brain on drugs."

You want to live in 'the Valley'.

Ferris Bueller was your idol.

You watched 'Star Search' on a regular basis.

Every now and then, you blurt out: "Ooh noo, Mr. Bill!!!"

If you had an entire wardrobe of Esprit clothing (or coveted one.)

If you know the words to the "Oscar Mayer" theme songs

Your bangs are teased perfectly to 7 inches above the rest of your hair.

Have multi-colored earrings that touch your shoulders

Played Upwords, Boggle or Trivial Pursuit (the original) on a rainy afternoon

You wore lace gloves with the fingers cut off, bangle bracelets up to your elbows, bright red Reebok high tops and parachute pants to a school dance

You're still bitter that WHAM broke up

You know whose phone number is 867-5309

You drink Diet Coke because Max Headroom told you to

You still watch things on Beta tapes

You have the tendency to turn up the collar of your polo shirts

You never go out for a night on the town without frosted blue eyeshadow and feathered bangs

Everything in your wardrobe is either pastel or fluorescent

People are constantly gagging you with spoons.

You know all the words to "I'm just a bill, sitting up on Capitol Hill" and "School House Rock."

The feeling in your thumb is only now just returning after holding down the Atari joystick to control the racecar in Enduro Racer

You still can't believe that Milli Vanilli was deceiving you all that time

You can sing all the words to "One Night in Bangkok" by Murray Head, and now you understand that it is about chess.

You still wear a bandana tied around your leg and/or a ponytail off-center on the side of your head.

You know who Martha Quinn is.

You still carry your boom box on your shoulder

You think David Hasselhoff was awesome in Knight Rider but sucks in "Boob Watch."

When you saw luging at the Winter Olympics you poured water down your driveway and tried it yourself.

A piece of folded paper and two hands could tell your fortune.

Knickers and leg warmers were cool

You ever wanted to learn to play "Stairway to Heaven" on the guitar and choreographed "Dancing Queen" by yourself in your room.

You had ringside seats for Luke and Laura's wedding

You ever had a Dorothy Hammill haircut.

You thought a Commodore 64 was the highest technology available

You wanted to be "The Hulk" for halloween

You want to be "Where Everybody Knows Your Name"

'A Different World' kicked butt

Remember "Dancin' to a Big Mac at McDonalds!"

You know who played Magnum P.I

One Phrase, "The Plane, The Plane"

You can name at least three members of the Brat Pack

Still think banana clips were a godsend

Still wear Wet n' Wild makeup

If your idea of hi-tech toys is still the heat-sensitive color-changing sticker on Transformers

If you remember Bruce Willis from Moonlighting, not Die Hard

You still wear your "Members Only" jacket.

You still have a couple of those barettes made of woven ribbons.

You had snap bracelets

You remember when Pee-Wee wasn't a pervert.

You had had five pairs of socks on at any given time

You still think Donkey Kong can beat Mario up

If you still have your scratch-n-sniff sticker collection

If you remember when you heard that drinking soda and eating Pop Rocks would make your stomach explode

If you ever used Lee Press-On Nails

If you wear jelly shoes

You still play with that CASIO SK-1 Keyboard

You're still hoping for a New Kids on the Block reunion tour

You still argue over who was better: Tiffany or Debbie Gibson

Every time you hear the "OH YEAH..." song you think of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"

You still watch tapes of Stingray, McGyver, and Airwolf

"There was nothing to question about Bert n' Ernie living together" - heheheee, we have a comedy show where they are gay and do lots of funny stuff. They are single-eyed (to be different) and are called Bernie and Ert.

And... I am still proud owner of a Commodore-64 :D

GermanSteve, we still have a Commodore-64 stashed away in our basement family room...they had the coolest games on it!! I should get it hooked up and play some this weekend.

Geez...
I'm sorry ya'll, but I didn't care much for the 80's

Who remembers when "the long national nightmare" was over?
(knowing full well it had nothing to do with water OR a gate)

Who still thinks of John Travolta as Vinnie Barbarino?

What about polyester leisure suits?

...big afros

"Dynomite!" ?

Who remembers when "All in the Family", "M*A*S*H", "The Brady Bunch" and "Happy Days" weren't re-runs? (all new episodes)

What about "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and Mary Tyler Moore?

Bell Bottom pants or -Heaven forbid- Elephant Ears (I actually had a pair of those)

Ooops! I guess this stuff belongs on a different thread.... Sorry

Big hair ..........hairspray and gel sales hit the roof!
Big earrings........long dangling big earrings! If you had a short neck they became breast armor ;)

and extra big shoulder pads....put a football player to shame, they did! If you shrugged your shoulders you'd knock those earrings into a spin and fall over! Never hurt your head though....cause it was like a helmut with the products in it! ;)

And the sweaters! omg.... sequins, sequins, sequins :(

We can't forget.........his great purpleness either....Prince!
AND seeing movies via VCR in our own homes.......lol they were the size of a small desk back then!

and finally........Banana clips!!!!!! :) ah, yes the eighties...the decade both my kids hit their teens. I remember it well!!!!! :)

I remember everything above.
My mind still works.

Remember when we saw the shooting of JFK and
the first landing on the Moon on TV.

The Viet Nam War

How about Car 54 Where Are You?
The Lone Ranger, Gun Smoke.

The Beatles on the Ed Suliven Show
Mama's and The Papa's
The Rolling Stones
The Greatful Dead & Free LSD 25

Oh sorry that was the late 60's

OK - Here was my typical Friday night outfit. The funny thing was, it appealed to some women. I actually hooked up alot wearing this shit. Tell me, is this not the sterotypical 80's get-up?

A Skinny white Leather tie, a pair of high top Grey Capezios ( that's right - the dance shoes ), the flock of seagulls hair cut with lots of gel and hairspray ( atleast 6" high at the top of my head ), turquoise Girbault pants ( anyone remember those ) that were REALLY wide around the thigh and REALLY snug around the ankle ( for that hipster/genie look that we were all going for ) that also had the built-in bulging crotch ( YEE - HA), a pink tank top, a yellow shirt with grey polka dots unbuttoned almost to my waist, the requisite gold chain and last but not least, the waist length, double breasted, shoulder padded " eisenhower jacket", also grey. Yep, with that gear on I was ready to conquer the nightcludbs of upstate NY, hahaha! Bascially, I looked alot like Nicholas Cage in "Valley Girl" - which is another classic 80's reference.

Hell, I wore a similar ensemble to my college graduation.....

How hideous! I guess that's why I stick to wearing all-black now.

A fun thread. Thanks for the recall, IAKG.

Cheers,

Superfreak

SMURFS...Arrrrrrggghhhhhh!!!!!!

IAKG, you had me on most of those 80s bullets. I'm originally from Miami and so I was into Miami Vice. I had a huge picture of Don Johnson and Phillip Michael Thomas in my dorm room at school. I also owned a white linen jacket which I wore with bright blue pants and a t-shirt. And, of course, I had the half shaven look going with the shoulder length hair. :p

867-5309...Jenny, Jenny who can I turn to????

Thanks, rabbit. You've now allowed me to fast-forward the tape (because *nobody* had CDs throughout most of the 80s) in my head. I hate to have to admit liking both those songs...still. :)

And, since all of you are so honest, I'll also have to admit to owning a pair of Smurf-blue tights that I wore under a light gray skirt with a gray shirt with Smurf-blue polka-dots. What was I thinking???? :D

Sweetie, some questions defy answering! :)

To this day, the absolutely GREATEST CONCERT I ever attended was in 1983...The Police were on their Synchronicity tour and they did a show in the town where I went to college. We camped out in front of the civic center for two days to get tickets. The Fixx opened up for them. I remember that we refused to leave, even after two encores and the announcements saying that the show was over. Sting came back out and made us promise to leave if they did one more encore! Ahhh.....that was a great night!

*sigh*

The Fixx? OMG, I had *forgotten* about them.

Yes, that *would* have been an awesome concert. A few years ago I got to see REO Speedwagon and Styx...of course, much different than if I'd seen them in their heyday of 1984. Had me wondering if they'd left Dennis DeYoung back in the 80s...I just loved that Mr. Roboto video. ~sigh~

Wow, I am definitely a man of the 80`s, I still have my Italian army jacket, with all my tour badges on it, and the masterpiece in sewing skills on the back of the "Rainbow" Rising album cover! Took me weeks and was the first time that sewing was cool for men!!!!, Now no hair and a goatee!! Then long hair and no goatee!!!!

God those were the days! Not a care in the world. Thanks for the smile IAKG!
