As part of a younger generation (I'm 32) that has not known war I find it sad that we can't seem to remember our soldiers. It used to be that Rememberance Day in my Canadian town had a big turn out of young and old to pay there respects to soldiers living and passed on. The last few years have eroded this respect and I have seen talking in the minute of silence, no one dresses up anymore, and some seem to think this is an ideal time to protest whatever cause they are fighting for that week. 2002 brought on a new idea to hold the ceremonies inside because of the cold. Like the soldiers in the trenches had a choice if they were too cold. We should cherish our comfort. How soon we forget!
Just my two cents for what it is worth.

Amen, Dude33!
I was ridiculed and laughed at when I made a big stink about flag etiquette where I worked. They weren't presenting the flag properly and still don't. I am teaching my kids to respect the flag, not talk during our national anthem, remove their hat and be reverent on these occasions. The reason they have the opportunity to enjoy sporting events or a parade and say what they think is because many decent men and women died making sure that it stayed that way.
I sure the "protest set" will be surprised when they get their way and their freedoms are no longer defended. I wonder how Mr. Sheen will feel when he gets imprisoned and tortured for speaking his mind. I wonder what he will do with a new government that doesn't allow any dissenting views.

Shame on US!
And it's not just veterans! People from all walks of life.......at any given moment.........living paycheck to paycheck.....can and are finding themselves homeless! But.............the elected officials on Capitol Hill (yes we voted for them) give themselves a hefty raise whenever the mood strikes!
So.....the bottom line.......the big question.....
What are WE going to do about all of this? We (speaking for Americans) live in "The Land Of Opportunity". How can EVERY citizen take advantage of this so called "opportunity"? How can "they" (those on the hill) sleep at night knowing this is happening in a country where "ALL men" (and women) are suppose to be treated equal"? Do they just close their eyes to it and pretend it doesn't exist? Or are they so truly removed from "the common man's" plight that they have no idea of the magnitude of this problem? Maybe we should bombard them with statistics. Maybe WE should make them aware....or more aware!
So very sad Irish! I wish things like this could never happen......to anyone.....let alone a veteran who had risked his life for a country that, in turn, turned it's back on him!
I say again.........SHAME ON US!

LixyChick---It all amounts to the six words used by most
politicians in this country:"Do you know who I am!"
