Ok, now I know I am a freak....If I have used my oven during the week, I clean it every saturday...I have a small obsession with thinking that any previous flavor will permiate what I am currently cooking.

Clean freak.

O.M.G. Every week? I'm impressed! How many times a week do you vacuum?

I am trying not to get the oven dirty by using a deep baking tray (great thing) or ovenproof glass dish.

One of the best chemicals for cleaning an oven (yes, the black crusts, too) is a not too strong distilled-water-solution of potassium hydroxide. Take care not to get skin or eye contact (!). Use rubber gloves and protecting glasses. Do not leave solution in the oven for longer time because it can be slightly aggressive against enamel. Rinse with water afterwards.
Oven will look like new.

Good luck on your move, Sarriah! I moved in to what I hope is my last place for a while on Nov. 18 and unpacked my last box last night. Now, where did I put that oven cleaner?

Well I don't clean it thats one of the very few jobs I make hubby do ... its too hard to breathe that stuff.. causes an asthma attack every time.. but there is something that my Mom used to use that wasn't that hard to breathe.. I'll have to find the name for ya RG

I think I can most closely identify with Booger's cleaning method:
Crank that puppy up to 5 hunnard and let it (eventually) vaporize...

any previous flavor will permiate what I am currently cooking.

STO: that's what you call "seasoning"... you gotta perpetuate the flavor from one dish to the next.

Damn, I'm sounding like a true bachelor now, aren't I?

Uh, that's what they make self-cleaning ovens for, just push the little button and you're good to go :D
