Opinion and feedback: Cameras

Ok, so here I am wanting to take pictures and perhaps video to post on a webpage , I was wondering what the Pixie members use/prefer or could recommend? I am not very knowledgable about this sort of thing so thought I would try here first since it seems a LOT of you have digital cameras.

I have seen digital cameras that can take video and also pictures (or stills), do you think something like this would be better or a "standard" video camera would work better?

Oh if you have any weblinks to a good site about cameras, let me know, I have done some searches but haven't come up with anything that has helped a whole lot.

We use a digital camcorder (JVC GR-DVF10) .....get the best of both worlds then....can either have the video....capture any frame off the video for photos or take photos like a normal digital camera

Cost us approx A$1,200....

Capture program approx A$500

Expensive yes....but we believe it to be worth every cent

I use a Kodak Easyshare DX3600. I find it incredibly easy to use, and the picture quality is superb.
How much video you can do depends on the size of your CompactFlash card, I bought a 128MB card with mine which gives me nearly 200 still photos on best quality, or something ridiculous like 800 photos on good quality! Best quality can store up to about 10 minutes of video, and good quality can store about half an hour or so.
The only issue to consider is that the movies tend to be quite large - I have one video that lasts abotu 1 minute 15 seconds, and that takes up 14MB on my hard drive! That's in Best quality, and obviously isn't appropriate for posting on a webpage. But in good quality, and for shorter durations should be ok.

Well that's my situation, I'm very happy with the camera, but it's a matter of deciding exactly what suits your particular needs best.

The camera cost me about AUD$600 and the 128MB memory card cost AUD$140.

About the lowprice sector:
A webcam has the disadvantage that it is all the time connected to your computer and has usually a bad quality of the picture.
These pencams have roughly the same resolution, but you can move them around and - sometimes - also take a mimi-mini-video.
Depending on how much money you want to invest and if you prefer taking pics or vids you should make your choice. Any further suggestions?
