That's what I meant Maddy...mass and volume. Guess I should have explained that better. We all know one pound of feathers weighs the same as one pound tomatoes. Theres just a whole lot more feathers...lol!
Sorry for the misunderstanding!

nutworld, I have a program I use called CalorieKing. I downloaded it off the web (for a fee) and it really helps me to monitor what I eat AND to better understand the choices I might make. Goalsetting is a breeze. Exercise is also tracked. It is pretty comprehensive and easy to use. I highly recommend it.

a bit more...
*wonders if it's safe to say anything....*
Just a couple of things.
First, I want to add my two cents on the water issue. First, it makes you feel full, so decreases your intake of food.
Second, as you increase proteins it is important to keep your kidneys "flushed out", large chains of proteins can be injurious to the kidneys.
(if you decrease carbs and fats, the difference is going to be increasing proteins)
On exercise...
My "freshman 20" was more like "freshman 40". I was a PUDGE!
Most of it went away by serious exercise and eating smart, "for content not taste" exactly as the other have said.
Yes, you have to burn 3500 (I would swear it feels more like 35000) Kcal to burn one pound. What many folk don't know is that 1/2 hour of exercise raises the overall metabolic rate for several hours. This is not the "basal rate" but a transitory thing, a response to the exercise where you actually burn some extra calories while resting AFTER exercising. It is a minor increase, but if you exercise regularly, it adds up quickly.
Good luck sweetie

It's all just numbers.
When the calories you're burning slightly exceeds the calories you're ingesting, you are on the road to slow but sure weightloss.

Hello and thanks.
Everyone's been so helpful offering advice and suggestions I thought it was time for a "follow-up".
First I've been limiting my pop intake at the restaurant, to 1 glass per shift, and if I am thirsty I have been drinking water with lemon (the lemon is "allowed" right?) But I've been trying NOT to drink the pop.
I've been drinking the water as I said, but also limiting myself to one serving of red meat a week, grilled chicken is the meat of choice when eating meat. I'm eating fruit, cottage cheese and salad when I DO eat at work.
Of course I've gotten in the habit of only eating once per day, usually at night(around 8 or 9pm) when I work.
I'm also working on stopping my "bedtime snack"-ing habit. Not 100% successful at that yet either, but its not a nightly activity.
As far as exercise, I'm still not doing enough, and I know that but.........I'm trying.
I have no idea if it is working, or not..........to be honest, I don't feel like I'm losing weight, and I don't have a set of scales at the house. I'm trying to tell myself that I am doing "better things for myself, so it HAS to be working", but nothing tangable at this point.

What's the line from Buffet's Fruitcakes ?
"I treat my body like a temple
You treat yours like a tent"
I'll be honest, I've been living in tent city for a while now and it's caught up with me.
I do FEEL better and now that I've taken a good look, maybe I've lost a little weight, but maybe my eyes are seeing what I WANT them to see when I look in the mirror.
