Square Watermelons
Square Watermelons
A round watermelon can take up a lot of room In a refrigerater and the usually round fruit Often sits awkwardly on refrigerator shelves.
Smart Japanese Farmers have forced their watermelons To grow into a square shape by inserting the melons into Square, tempered glass cases while the fruit Is still growing on the vine.
Are they in your local grocery store? If so, pick up one or two while they last.
(My brother-in-law sent this to me. Not sure where it originally came from.)

Wow, those are cool and would be pretty convenient for the fridge and to slice. Haven't seen any in stores though.

In Japan, those watermelons will cost you about 300-350% more than a round one.

If you can still cut a hole in one, and empty a fifth of vodka into it, it is still the kind of watermelon I used to love!

Not the eggs. I do recall hearing about these melons and other fruits and vegies being force-grown to the cubical form in Japan 10 or 15 yeas ago. Supposedly, for handling and shipping efficiencies, but the labor cost obviously would offset any stacking advantages.
