Controversial or "hot Topic" question
Okay,
What does everyone think about the posting of potential controversial topics on this board? There are a few current events which I find interesting and would be curious about others opinions (Similar to my "I don't get Islam" thread).
But those types of topics can really create some tension or strong feelings, which we may not want to have on this board. The last thing I'd want is to accidentally put up some charged topics that made people leave or "yell" at each other on threads. We got a pretty good thing going here.
What do you think? Do they have a place here, or we should just leave that well enough alone?

Questions are always legitimate, but sometimes are just thrown "out there" to stir up an opinion frenzy.
If you truly have a question you want answered, seeking knowledge or context, then that is legitimate.
If you just want to stir a hornet's nest, as I plan to do with my question about the federal funding shortfall in the struggle for recognition of the legitimacy of land rights for gay whales, real toothed whales, not those woosy baleen bitches, then be prepared to be castigated by the right minded, cetacean friendly majority who swim, sorry, frequent this forum.

At times there have been topics that initially were general, easy going qustions or opinions and took a turn somewhere along the discussion. Sometimes they'd leave a bad taste in some peeps mouths...sometimes they'd be cause for a few peeps to leave the boards "forever". But for the most part, when calm was called for either by the thread particpants or the power holders at Pixies, everyone took a step back and let the thread die off.
Personal opinions and beliefs are just that...personal! There are the few who want everyone to think and believe as they do because they cannot fathom that while their ideals and beliefs may be right for them they may not fit into the lives of everyone.
This issue has been discussed here at Pixies before...whether to NOT discuss something for fear of starting a battle. I think it's been settled that this particular forum is a "general" forum and most anything can be proposed.
Ideally, what we all have to keep in mind is that we have a choice to open a thread and participate or leave it alone and participate only in the threads we choose. If we do participate we should handle it in a mature manner without name calling, anger and threats toward any Pixie member.
In a nut shell Jax...RUN IT UP THE FLAG POLE AND SEE IF ANYONE SALUTES!
P.S. Might I add that it was very nice of you to ask about the potential problem first and we should all bear this thread in mind should we, indeed, get our feathers ruffled by future topics from Jax!

Now OF...about those gay whales?
Land rights? I think the sea is big enough for all persuasions of mammals with fins!
Fuck them...they can't have part of the land too!
*wanders off wondering if I even understood the proposed funding issue in the correct context. *shrug* That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!*
*giggle* ^^^^how NOT to handle yourself in a contraversial thread topic!

Lixy, that's part of the trouble.
They want a series of shoals at the mouth of a certain river that may have certain charm.
Apparently they want to turn them into a gay bar.

Painted flukes and an exaggerated aesthetic sense.
Scientists have long wondered at the behavior of whales, especially when they do that "jump out of the water" thing.
A recent, as yet to be generally accepted, discovery is that this is the behaviour of straight whales when confronted with an incessant barrage of comments about how untidy the kelp is, how terrible this krill is for the hips and if someone could just develop a tofu shrimp how much healthier that could all be, and whether that whalesong from Pacific4 should be banned due to homocetaciaphobic content.
Apparently for the layman, it's easy. Some go down and some go up.
The something in the water is biodegradable, after the little whale tadpoles stop cavorting in the ocean. And you thought it was crocs, stingers and sharks we had to worry about.

Why stop with protecting only the gay whales? Does the possiblity not exist for other species to prefer their own gender? Let's not discriminate now
