Kristallnacht

Lord Snow 03-25-2010 08:33 PM

Are you referring to the ability to see, I think it's Mars, really well tonight? Or the event in German history?

PantyFanatic 03-25-2010 09:23 PM

OH! What historical event would come to mind today?

;)

Lord Snow 03-25-2010 11:05 PM

Well, it happened in November and it's more commonly known as the Night of Broken Glass. It was a night in which many Jews were taken from their homes and murdered by Nazi soldiers. Which is one reason why I asked, since it's March and not November.

PantyFanatic 03-26-2010 02:48 AM

It's not the date but the deed I find interesting. ;)

Oldfart 03-26-2010 03:45 AM

Commit an atrocity and proclaim it the will of the people? Nothing new about that.

Sad, but true.

Lord Snow 03-26-2010 10:14 AM

I prefer, kill 1 person and you're a murderer kill 1 million and you're a conqueror.

Oldfart 03-26-2010 05:25 PM

The death of one is a tragedy, the death of a hundred is a catastrophy, the death of a million is a statistic. Joe Stalin, I think.

PantyFanatic 03-26-2010 07:04 PM

But remember that a single dagger is treason while a thousand sabers is revolution.

Oldfart 03-26-2010 07:33 PM

Isn't revolution merely treason on an industrial scale?

Lord Snow 03-26-2010 09:55 PM

Revolution is successful treason. Remember remember the fifth of November. The gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

osuche 04-02-2010 09:47 PM

How many threads I can read before I have to leave for dinner.

Too late, the Governments have taken huge steps to keep treason from succeeding, so sure are they that they are always right. I hope they're right, or we'll cop it from both sides.

I don't know, but it sounds like you might want to leave your guns at the door. :)

You know, I do live in Oakland. Many people bring guns to dinner, and other exotic places. :yikes:

Keep in mind, my country was founded on treason. The idea wasn't to quash revolution originally, it was to make it so that it was no longer necessary. Though I'm starting to wonder if what's happening the USA isn't the beginning of drastic measures.

Depending, of course, upon one's perspective.

Lord Snow 04-04-2010 10:06 AM

I don't think perspective has much to do with it. From what I learned in school they knew it was treason when the colonists decided to no longer be ruled by someone so far away without any kind of representation in parliament. However, it was also decided by those people that the results should they fail were vastly outweighed by the prospects of what they could achieve should they succeed and thus started the revolution. Then again........I once heard in the movie The Count of Monte Cristo "Treason is a matter of dates, and well all is said and done I will be the patriot and you will be the upstart."

jseal 04-04-2010 12:14 PM

Some people think perspective matters.

Oldfart 04-04-2010 04:51 PM

Perspective is a personal matter. From the Brit perspective, there's a slight matter of back-taxes, on the basis that the colonies had no legal mechanism to separate from the crown. From the Yank perspective it was time to try a social experiment in self-rule. For the Indians it was an experiment in oppression and disenfranchisation. For the Aussies, it was a journey to a new and harsh land. Iceland probably had a take on it as well.

jseal 04-04-2010 06:26 PM

True.

In which case it's ALL perspective from the persons (groups) view.

jseal 04-04-2010 07:06 PM

That's right. Perspective matters.

... unless your perspective is that perspective does not matter. :)

Lord Snow 04-04-2010 07:49 PM

The truth of the matter that since perspective changes based on the individual telling the story, perspectives on the subject don't mean squat to those listening. Mainly because we will draw our own conclusions and perspectives based on the information given to us. In which case we have just made full circle back to "treason is a matter of dates."

That's the key. We need more people that draw their OWN conclusion, but not based ONLY on the information given by the story teller. ;)

$50.

That's what it cost to cremate someone (my father) in 1987.

What a bargain. :(

Oldfart 04-05-2010 01:39 AM

Is that from your perspective?

osuche 04-06-2010 02:06 PM

How much I'd rather be hot tubbing it right now.

Aqua 04-06-2010 02:21 PM

That maybe I shouldn't sell my hot tub just yet. :p

osuche 04-07-2010 08:58 AM

:D You need to move it a little closer.

I'm feeling like procrastinating, although I have no time to do so.

/me cracks whip

PantyFanatic 05-06-2010 11:49 AM

Wondering if I should be sending scuba equipment to Nashville. The Zoid man has been conspicuously absent since the reported flooding down there. :rolleyes2

Neige 05-06-2010 12:40 PM

Forbidden fruit.

Too busy drying out the strings on his 12 string?

Aqua 05-06-2010 06:53 PM

Hoping my free 30 minutes with the attorney this evening is productive.

Sorry pal, there is no such thing.

Lord Snow 05-07-2010 12:16 AM

I can report, that most of Nashville is under water rationing due to the back up of sewage systems and that the waters are slowly but surely receding. As for Scotz, I have no clue.

PantyFanatic 05-07-2010 12:58 AM

:eew: Guess I should send a snorkel with a filter.
