View Full Version : Let's talk about sex or ice cream

Lilith

In my family when people bicker amongst themselves someone always says,"Let's talk about sex or ice cream", meaning for them to change the subject to something everyone can agree upon.
I think someone's choice of ice cream flavor says a lot about their personality maybe even their sexual identity.
So tell me what's your flavor?

:( :( :( Sadly, there aren't a lot of ice cream choices available for lactose-intolerant diabetics. I can get sugar-free ice cream or lactose-free ice cream (neither of which is really worth eating anyway --- I speak from experience), but there's nothing sugar- and lactose-free on the market yet that I know of! I used to be such an ice cream fan, too...

Back in the day when I could eat the stuff, I always figured the best ice cream on earth was my aunt's homemade maple syrup ice cream, made with my father's maple syrup and my uncle's fresh eggs and cream... Heavenly stuff, that. Her mango ice cream was divine as well, served with ripe strawberries from my grandmother's garden...

As for store-bought ice cream, it was a three-way tie for me: mint-chocolate-chip, cookies and cream, and butterscotch praline. Right now I'd even settle for plain ole' vanilla soft-serve if I could eat it --- I'm having withdrawal symptoms just thinking about it...

That's really a shame SFC. I would offer some cream of my own making, if it would make you feel any better! ~lacivious mode off~

ROTFLMAO!!! Good one, Nubian... Sweet of you to offer. Might just have to take you up on that...

Hmm.... You know, maybe the connection between home-made ice cream and, er, 'hand-made cream' like you're offering might explain my oral fixation? :o :p :o

Good suggestion, Jay, thanks... But sadly vanilla ice cream has just about as much sugar in it as any other kind --- the sugar isn't in the flavour extracts they mix in, it's in the ice cream itself. My only option would be to get an ice cream maker and make my own ice milk (since they don't make lactose-free cream) with artificial sweetener... Somehow it reaches a point where the whole point of the ice-creamy goodness is gone, and it's no longer recognizable as anything you'd want to ingest. :(

I think I'll stick with Nubian's idea of cream for now... :p

Do the Butterfingers stick to your teeth really bad or is that why you like it? Just asking for research purposes.......

mindboxer505
02-25-2002, 11:57 PM
I've never had a problem with that, but I usually grind up my own butterfingers and add them to what ever ice cream we have in the house. I take two BFingers, put them in a blender with a little milk for lubrication and grind away.then I'll add that to the ice cream and savor each mouthful!!! Have fun with your research, and explore away!!!!

SFC---As you know;I am diabetic too!I never used to want coffee,
or ice cream when I drank!I am a recovering alcoholic. The 15th was 9yrs8mo. since I had any alcohol. Now I love ice cream. My wife and I go to the Lone Oak(Local drive-in ice cream stand)about every 1-2wks.On the days that I know that we are going to
go that evening;I take a higher dose of insulin that morning.I also
eat less.We always park in one of the back rows because we go
mostly to laugh at the people that are there.I know that it is a
dangerous thing to do but so was racing motorcycles.Life is full of
risks. You might want to try this but it is up to you.I;frankly;am sick
of my life being one big restriction. Irish
P.S.I work out every day.I know at my age that I'm not going to enter any bodybuilding contests but it keeps my blood pressure
lower&also my blood sugar.I test my blood 3-4 times a day!

sugarfreecandy
02-28-2002, 08:43 PM
Irish --- It's true, even with the diabetes I do get to indulge in sweets on occasion. I have to do 4-5 blood tests, 6-8 insulin injections, and take 4 pills a day for the diabetes itself, not to mention other medications for various (as yet minor) complications, but on special occasions I do splurge and have another dose of insulin to go with a special dessert or a particularly high-carb meal. I do exercise as well --- as you say, it's important for blood sugar control. Sadly, though, I still can't have ice cream or cheesecake (another former favourite dessert) because I'm also lactose intolerant (I can't digest the form of sugar that's found in milk products). Ice cream and other milky foods make me very sick... Not pleasant at all. :( But thanks so much for the suggestion!

SFC---If I was lactose intolerant;I'd really be screwed.About a year ago;my diabetes Dr.;suggested that I see a diabetic dietician
because it had been so long since I had seen one.I used to take
a M.R.P.in the morning and protien powder at night;before bedtime.Everything that you read says to use alot of protien if you
weight train. The dietician told me that with the protien;that I was
a good candidate for dialisis;because of my age, high blood pressure, and diabetes. My father-in-law had to have dialisis every
day and it sucks! She told me to use SlimFast instead of protien.
The SlimFast Powder is much less expensive then the canned.
Every day now;I have a SlimFast shake with the SlimFast powder
&Skim milk twice a day.Lactose intolerance would even prohibit
that. Irish
P.S.Be careful!Diabetes is sneaky.I have already had my right eye
operated on & I have diabetic neropothy(sp)in my legs&feet.

Irish -- Sorry to hear about all the complications you have to deal with! I've only been diabetic for about three years, but I've already lost a lot of the sight in one eye due to cataracts --- luckily, that's operable and I'll regain my vision eventually. The retinopathy and neuropathy terrify me. Knock on wood, my nerves are as good as ever, but I do notice that cuts and so on take a lot longer to heal now... *sigh* Ah well. I do what I can --- my blood sugar and glycosylated hemoglobin, etc., are at non-diabetic levels, and I stay in very tight control...

But we've kind of highjacked this thread --- e-mail me (click the link in my profile) if you want to talk more about this.

I don't eat ice cream very often......so I don't really have a fave. If I've "smoked" ;)....I bet I could be tempted to eat a gallon!

Beings that I hate to be left out....I'll say extra creamy vanilla.....(with walnut toppings).......

Oh crap....I dunno.....pistachio (homemade) is pretty good when I'm at the shore (on the boardwalk).....and I could prolly stomach butter pecan...........um.......um.....and strawberry is good on a really hot summer day.....

OMG.....maybe I do like ice cream! But...at home I rarely eat it. Weird, huh?
