I just go this letter. I am so mad. The home builder told me that I can move in to my new house by February 24th, 2005. I already booked all my home new appliances, new furnitures and etc move in that weekend February 25th, 26th etc... :bang: :bang:

Now I got this letter. I have to call the furnitures store and appliances store to tell them move in different day . This house had been extended from November to February already. Now they want to extend more. :bang: they said it will be the last time they want to extend. . This time they sent this letter to me.:(

Dear Purchasers:

As you aware the new home construction indurstry is experiencing a great increase in construction activitiy which as affected the production and delivery of construction related materials. In Addition, the high volume of construction at this time have affected the schedules.

Please be advised that your closing is now scheduled for MARCH 10, 2005 :bang:

and...blah..blah....................

Is pretty typical I'm afraid.... you can have a lawyer check your contract to see if there is anything you can do.

(((CP))) ~ Let's just hope the extra time ensures they're doing a good job on the building, rather than sticking it together with bubble gum. :p

Unfortunately, you're at their mercy. Obviously you aren't going to back out of the purchase of the house over two more weeks of construction, but it is aggravating as hell. Unless you have a definative completion date established with monetary penalties for not hitting that deadline...your only two options are cancel the deal or wait. Sorry.

yup! that is what I afraid of. I afraid of them keep pushing back and back. Last time they wrote on the purchased paper. promised me no more delay than February 24th, but last time they didn't mail me a letter. just wrote on a paper.

This time they delay but write a letter.

Ah.................I don't know how many more times they gonna delay again ?

it really pissed me off that I have to tell my current land lord that I have to stay until the end of March. I can move after March

That is a common tactic that builders do CP, but it is very frustrating for you I am sure. It is so exciting to buy your first home and when this happens it does take some of the excitment and turn it into frustration.

They secure the sale of X number of houses and work on them until they are all ready for completion at or about the same time. This means the closing dates of the people who purchase first are moved to later dates, with a block of houses closing in a very short time span.

You should have gone to a lawyer before hand and had it written into your offer that you would be guaranteed(unless by an act of God) a closing date or the builder must pay a penalty to the purchaser. I bet your builder is running out of building supplies because he is using them on other homes.

Also new home buyers should make sure they get the builder to put their down payment into an interest bearing account ,whereas any accrued interest be payable towards the purchase of the said home.
