degrees.....It's going to be too hot to roast a turkey without roasting ourselves. I am actually going to have to turn the AC on :hot:

Do you think it's ok to just have salad and fruit for Thanksgiving?:D

Bring your family over to my house, Lil. They're predicting rain turning to snow. :)

If you could come, you'd be welcome. What's 6 more when I already have 17 coming??? And I bought a 30 lb turkey...... :) Then you wouldn't need to cook! ;)

Bonnie, mosquitoes all year, Charley, hotter in your kitchen than in your oven at Thanksgiving, Frances, alligators that eat your dog, Ivan, Christmas carolers in bathing suites, Karl………………..

Guess my ancestors weren’t so stupid after all.

Deep fry the bird...outside in the big roaster/fryer thingy Lil! I know you don't usually fry things, but they say it's real good that way...and it's just once a year!

Oh...and TY for rubbing it in about the heat hun...*raspberries*

Happy Bird Day everyone!

I've always heard of deep frying the turkey, but I'm not sure how I could handle that...If my mom ever deep fried the turkey I'd skip it lol

Wonder who came up with that idea in the first place???? It's definately creative because I never would have dreamed it up!

Then give it a try Lil.

Around here you get arrested if you do anything BUT deep fry your turkey.

BTW..............it's going to be freezing here on Thanksgiving. Only 58 degrees.

That's a lot of people to cook for Nikki (BTW, the brit celebrating TG didn't even hit me until you said something osuche LOL)

I always try to bring stuff with me when I go to moms, last year I took a pumpkin pie, some dressing and some crackling bread. This year I think I'm going to take a pumpkin pie, some of wyndhy's crab dip and a mac and cheese casserole. I can deal with that, but 20 people, whew. Once mom decides she doesn't want to cook anymore I'm going to fiance's sister's house I guess LOL

When you go to someone elses house (or when other people come over) do they bring dishes with them?

Nikki is a US millitary spouse :D She is cooking for her US peeps there I am sure. But I do see the irony. Best Thanksgiving I ever had was when Mr. Lil first was in Tech school in the Air Force. There were a few of us all first year married, all living in squalor, all scared and away from home. We had the best meal together because while none of us could afford the whole meal we could all afford to bring something. I made my first turkey that year. I remember the guy and his wife across the hall had us all shake cream into butter like we were Kindergarteners.

Nikki enjoy!

Our weather has been on a roller coaster........ we had apx 5" of snow on the 14th!! It only lasted a few days cause on the 18th we had temp of 58f and everything melted.

PF -- LOL!! I guess thats why my ancestors have remained New Englanders for the most part.

My family will be going to my sister-in-laws, about a 2 hour drive. Probably be 14 people there. She has the turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes. Everybody brings something...... Mom-in-law always brings a jello mold and rolls, I'm bringing creamed onions and turnip. I've been craving a chocolate cream pie lately and so may bring that to.

What ever you do, where ever you are.... Have a Happy & Safe Thanksgiving!!!

We got 34F right now and no clue what will really happen on Thanksgiving. I gave up trusting the weather peeps.

I know a guy who would wrap the bird w/stuffing inside in tin foil and put it in the BBQ outside for our 4th of July campouts. 3-4 hours I think it took, but don't quote me on that.

salad and fruit and sliced turkey sandwiches, this way you at least still get the triptophan (sp???) sleepy buzz. :D i hate cooking with the oven in the heat. if you can't indirect grill it how about a hole in your lawn, do it like a pig roast sans the gross looking apple stuffed in it's itty-bitty beak. :D actually sans the whole frikking head i guess.

On Turkey Day the high temp is going to be 35 after a low of 17 overnight...

I like to cook the Turkey in a 225 degree oven overnight...that way the house smells soooooooo good when we wake up in the morning. We usually eat around 1:00 and the Turkey is soooooo moist and tender by then.

After much deliberation, we've decided to stay home and cook for ourselves this holiday instead of dragging the kids to Boston for a gathering with the relatives. We'd just end up overeating, drinking too much and getting into an arguement over a football game and having to settle it outside...playing street football. And I'm getting too old for that crap.

So I'll overeat at home instead. :D

It was cool and cloudy yesterday...perfect weather for a family gathering - lit the fireplace and we all could eat in the kitchen without overheating outselves. It started raining last night and this morning we woke up with about an inch of snow!!!

Thinking about getting the Christmas stuff out!! :D
