With the blessing of modern metrological forecasting, comes the redundancy of many days of preparation and familiarity with something VERY serious and dangerous. Today is likely to bring events that will NOT be casually. Our thoughts are with you all in the area.

It appears this will have grave effects on more than one state. I am posting a map of the southeastern US with pixie location. While we know of members in the area that are not shown, this is current as of this posting. This area has 4 states with members that will be immediately effected. We look for the reports from those that have asked to be shown, but also hope to hear from the others we know are likely to be visited by Ivan.

Keep your heads down and your panties dry ………………………. from the outside. ;)

Yesterday most of the area evacuated saying that Interstate 65 was bumper to bumper, taking 5 hours to get 3 hours away...and an aunt in law left here yesterday to Orlando which should have been a 6 hour drive, took her 13 hours. But they are saying they are glad everyone is hitting the road taking precautions. I am north of the Gulf.....we're home and waiting on midnight when it's supose to be worse for us. The power company says if we loose power, we could be out for 3 weeks.

This is so aggrevating to just sit and wait and wonder......

Ya'll take care!

I am so fortunate...after 2 days of being the X marking the intended spot, I should get some bad wind gusts but be fine.

PF TY for putting together visuals at a moment's notice!

I know exactly what you mean, IWM. One of the girls in my building called me and said that it took her 22 hours to get to Houston from New Orleans (normally a 6-7 hour drive). I personally am sticking it out and hoping for the best. My empathy goes out to all the other affected pixies.

The tornado warning system is going off constantly alerting of twisters.

The tornado warning system is going off constantly alerting of twisters.

Lil? Do you know any details about the alert equipment system? Is this by chance something new happening under conditions you have witnessed before? Have you heard anything about new equipment being installed, used or tested?

I know NOTHING about ANTHING!, but as I read your note, it struck me,… rapid, isolated barometric pressure differentials would be VERY difficult to monitor or isolate during high velocity, massive air movements. Could the sudden, random, small but violent pressures differences accruing that produces the tornado effect, be used to automatically activate a self powered alert system for the immediate area?

I’m thinking out loud and probably out of my ass, (as usual) but the two simultaneous posts from different locations just shorted a synapse.

Heah! If nothing else, the 10 seconds you spent reading this gave you a mental brake from the lashing wind. ;)

Lilith
09-15-2004, 09:17 PM
We are not having high winds yet. Supposedly sensors have picked up several small weather anomalies that are symbolic of tornadoes. They are just using the typical emergency broadcast system stuff on the radio etc to warn us when those small movements have been detected. We are in a watch or warning til about 3 am here but they expect it to be extended.

So far a couple of small limbs for me but it's the Alabama peeps and IWM and dick that are about to have a bad night.

In an area close to me, three people were killed by tornados..... :( The wind is picking up.

Yay!!! Morning and I have power and cable so far! The trees are just all over the place, whipping in circles. Trees are down all over the town and 7 are dead in Florida (5 near me) from the tornadoes.

Glad to hear from you Lilith and that you can get on line and have power is good news.

I just got an IM from Joe (#10 on the map) Their power is down but he still has phone so he could hook up on his laptop. He says the winds are still pretty bad and a tree is down in the neighbors yard. He ask me to post here and let everyone at least know that he is OK.

Now we just have to hear from IWM.

Lilith

300,000 in her area are without power, hopefully she will call someone.

Thanks again for thinking about us everyone, and thanks PF for putting up the maps.
We just got power back last night. Still no TV cable. Several good friends lost their boats. The main east/west highway (US-98) is washed out in fort walton beach and just west of there a barge is parked on the highway that washed in off the intercoastal waterway. Don't know what the beach looks like yet, but heard they had 40 ft waves, so I don't imagine it looks very pretty. Still have not heard from IWM. Hope she's OK.

We just heard from IWM. She and her husband are fine. They have no power. She said it was the scariest thing she has ever gone through and that she will never do that again.

Let's hope she gets her power back on soon so our little Pixie perv come back to us. :)

Hi everyone. Thanks for asking about us. We're alive. We lost power about midnight Wednesday night and had the most horrid night of my life. The noise was terrible. My sister and I slept in the hall way sitting on go to run to the bathroom for cover. Needless to say, we didn't sleep at all. We still have no power, my families house just got power, so we came for a hot shower. Our privacy fence was blown over, we have water damage to our dining room ceiling, gutters are gone and the fence hit my husband's truck and have lost all our frozen food.

This was such a horrid thing to go thru. But, I am very thankful we are alive. Could've been so much worse.

Take care and I'll check in as I can.

Yeah, it's been amazing seeing all the electric trucks and caravans pulling in around here.

There still isn't power all thru our town, only a few gas stations are open so when people see them open, there are police there getting the cars in line to pump gas. It's crazy!

Even tho I am thankful we're okay, I am so ready to move....or atleast get back to normal.

I had to drive about an hour away from me last Friday to Gulf Breeze, Fl.....it was amazing seeing how much worse it was closer to the water than it was here. And it felt good to hear people that live there say "we are thankful".

dgalileo
09-30-2004, 09:47 AM
the last picture of the marina was from the bayfront marina. all of those pictures i posted were from the local paper, i am attaching a few that i took myself of the area around where i live. i was almost finished with construction of my new house when the storm hit, the first two are pictures from the weekend before ivan, the last few are after.

many people are thankful that things were not worse. any loss of life, damage to peoples homes, lives, the community as a whole is tragic - but it could have been much much worse. now cleanup time!

Summer

I am tired of cleanup time. It seems that after every damn time I clean up another one comes through. UGH! Don't get me wrong I am thankful to still be here and still have a home.

summer i guess it is the price we pay to live on the beach in such a beautiful environment. it can be catastrophic at times, but so can tornadoes in the midwest, blizzards in the northeast, earthquakes in the west, etc... for all the damage ivan caused to my house and this area i can still go sit on the beach and watch the most stunning sunsets anywhere - priceless!

We were very lucky. Our house our fence fell down, our gutters are gone, our dining room ceiling has water damage and our mail box was found a few houses down.

First you'll see a white house a mile away that is under a huge tree.

Next is our privacy fence...which Tang didn't mind because he got to stay inside even longer.

Next is my house. Not much wrong by looking at it except limbs all over and no mail box.

Next is a tree that took a power line down just down the street. Could be why we were out of power for 6 days.

And lastly another pic of my house.

A special news conference was scheduled today in Tallahassee to inform the people of Florida of new state symbols. The changes take effect immediately and must be implemented by all official agencies.

The changes are as follows:

The Florida State Flag will now be a blue tarp.

The license plate symbol of two oranges will be replaced by a chain saw.

The new state song will be "Blowing in the Wind."

The state motto will now be "Oh my God, Here comes another one."

The new state beverage will be anything with an alcohol base.

The new state tree will be any that are left standing at the end of the hurricane season.

The new state bird will be the "whipper" will.

The new state nickname will be "State of Disaster."

Florida has had a week or so off. You may get a bit rusty on Hurricane protocol if one does not drift by soon.

I'm glad that everyone from Pixies is safe. Summer, read Tom Sawer. Painting the fence?? Get otheres to do it for you.

You could leave it for awhile. If you make an offer in say Jan. that you will host / provide a camping spot for anyone that wants to help, there might be some Northerner that would love to leave the cold and help clean-up.
